About 1.4 million adults in the United States identify as transgender, double a widely used previous estimate, according to an analysis based on new federal and state data.As the national debate escalates over accommodations for transgender people, the new figure, though still just 0.6 percent of the adult population, is likely to raise questions about the sufficiency of services to support a population that may be larger than many policy makers assumed.
“There’s a saying: ‘You don’t count in policy circles until someone counts you,’” said Gary J. Gates, a demographer and former research director of the group that did the analysis, the Williams Institute at the U.C.L.A. School of Law, which focuses on law and policy issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

I AM NOT ALONE!!!! /hugs to all my trans brothers and sisters!
0.6 percent of the population, huh.
Still more then I thought.
I belonged to a minority that large for a long time. Now it is a smaller one.

Eh?
Which is what?
This is only Phase 1 of Operation: Transgender Takeover!
Is it important?
You brought it up, as if eluding to a great truth.
Just wanted to point out that there are lots of people living in small minorities. Just some seem to crave notice.
And some pretend to not want attention by cry for it, like you did here.
Was there any REAL point you had or was the point to troll the thread?
Troll the thread? You mean rather point out that tiny minorities are not so remarkable and that the reaction to hogging the limelight aggravates many people. Now your reaction seems to show that you know the feeling.
That's very nice. Empathy is human.

Sure there are all kinds of small minorities, like Trekkers, and goth, and Emo's and so many others. But only a few of these minorities are actually suppressed and ridiculed and treated as if they are wrong or don't matter. They have to do things to grab attention in order to correct that wrong. When was the last time a Trekker had any of his right denied by virtue of being a Trekker? Gays, trans, racial minorities, even poly's are denied basic rights or are even targeted because of simply who they are. We don't crave notice for that reason. But we need to get noticed so that people will know that treating us like that is wrong and that it must stop.
