The U.S. open gives the same prize money to women as it does to men. However, the men have to play best of 5, whereas the women are only required to play best of 3. That means the men are frequently out there sweating for 4+ hours when the women are often done in no more than 1.5 hours. How is that right or equal? Where is the equal-pay-for-equal-work crowd, or do they only show up when the rules favor men?

Also, I think the women should feel angry about being condescended to and defacto billed as the under-card to the 'real' matches.

Aren't you part of the "women are inherently weaker than men" crowd?

LMAO -

How about these options? Since the men play more of a serve-and-volley game, and the women play more ground strokes, they all get payed based on how often time they swing the racket. They should be paid PIECE WORK! That would make it fairer - right? Why should a dominant player get so much if they dispense with their opponent quicker? Doesn't seem fair to me. And how about bonuses based on how often you bring your opponent back to deuce? Aren't we all getting more of our money's worth then?

(I slay me!)
😂🤣😂

The biggest 'tell' on the fact that they arent equal is that there is a mens and womens division. Time for that to end. Level playing field....should be a riot.

What a odd reply. Oh, and useless. Did I forget to mention useless?

If you're implying men and women should play against each other, I disagree. I simply think they should play the same number of games for the same payout. I'm surprised at how such a simple concept has elicited such a number of odd replies.

"The US Open Women’s singles final had 1.04 million more viewers than the Men’s final, a significantly higher number. Unfortunately, these levels of viewership are not matched by the media coverage or attention given to the athletes."

More eyeballs for the advertisers = more money for the competitors ?? ??
Apparently not.

Your method does not imply equality. If you want equality, then there is either truly equal competition, or the prize money is dependent on receipts.

The idea of equal pay is fine but in sports and entertainment the bottom line is how much money to you create. Women's athletics doesn't draw the same crowds in most cases and therefore isn't worth as much. Tennis may be different but it about how much they create. Women's NBA for instance cant fill an arena like the mens and therefore they raise the same money and don't get paid the same. It's capitalism not socialism.

Equal pay based on job title would be a more accurate description.

I believe in equal pay except the WNBA. Their biggest highlight is making a layup. I suppose a couple of them can dunk (sort of).

Shouldn't need an explanation.

I don't see what "job title" has to do with the difference between best of 3 and best of 5. If you're not going to explain yourself, why post in the first place?

What's the equal work being performed?

You have my entire point backwards. If you can't be bothered to reread the OP we're done here.
Sorry if you're unable to understand my question.

Are you suggesting professional athletes should receive winnings solely on the basis of how long they play? Would that mean Superbowl player winnings wouldn't be a flat rate but based on the number of minutes each player in on the field?

*gasp* women get paid a bit higher per game in the U.S. Open?

Call the media! Let's get someone to cover this story immediately! How dare they! What a crock of nonsense! The tennis world is paying women more than men!

Except well, Roger Federer hasn't played a single match and was still the highest-paid tennis player for 2022. So I guess there really isn't any *shocking* news in the world of tennis.

So, you don't mind women being condescended to in this way? Interesting.
