If you believed James Bond left MI6 in License to Kill ... if you believed Snowden was really a rogue agent leaking vital national secrets ... then you're sure to believe that Elon Musk has fractured the Republican Party, ensuring victory for the Democrats in 2026 and beyond.
But for the suspicious sorts, here's how I'm guessing it goes.
1) Musk was only set to work in government a limited time
2) Decreasing stock prices on Musk properties allows certain folks to buy and make a huge profit.
3) Musk criticizing Trump's budget for being too big gives the illusion of an opposition within the party, to satisfy Republicans' sense of wanting to be heard.
4) Musk is in fact targeting just a few races. Races, where possible, there is only one party running (a Democrat), or where the Republicans are making a poor show.
5) Idea: Musk will pour BOATLOADS of money into races by surprise, giving Republicans a second chance to jump ship from a dog of a candidate onto a Musk candidate, thereby showing their independence from the Trump party...
6) Until, at the last minute, Trump tells all Republicans to vote for the Musk candidate as part of one of his Great Deals. You might be able to calculate this time by backtracking when in 2026 Musk has to start working to get all his temporary government employee days for the year, before the end of the year.
7) Outcome: The Democrats, acting as if flummoxed (really, worse: paid) stand by in shock as their candidates get swapped for "independent" Musk candidates, who then go on to caucus with the Republicans provided he gets a few hundred billion in taxpayer subsidies. Budgets for everyone else are slashed with glee, and everyone walks away happy. Except the poor schmuck Americans.
8) This is what you get for having a government run by pro wrestling executives.
