Make Austria Great Again actually did very well. Mind you this is Vienna City elections, not Austria elections. City of Vienna can be expected to be liberal bastions.

big cities tend to be liberal ;) - the SPÖ isn´t socialist, it´s "social democratic" like the german SPD (center left)

Nope.. big cities tend to vote to the left in Europe. Rural areas tend to vote to the right.

A new Vienna city government was unveiled yesterday:

SPÖ (Social Democrats) + NEOS (rightwing pro-business liberals, who are progressive on social issues)

SPÖ ….. socialist Party of Austria

....aka "Osterreich". :)
Thank God Austrians didn't put a Far Right person in power.
I'm going to quietly and cautiously hope that this had something to do with the world, including Austria, watching in horror as America sinks into a Nazi nightmare.

The SPÖ only called themselves Socialist until the early 80s.

Then they renamed to Social Democratic and became more market liberal, after the fall of Communism, like most European SD parties.

It is wrong to call them Socialist these days, because we have actual Left and Commie parties here in Europe who deserve the name.

I have long been of the opinion that Social Democracy fell so in love with the welfare state, so that the Welfare State, it's survival and expansion became it's end goal, and thus it abandoned Socialism, and the modern Social Democrat is thus not a Socialist.
