"The Trump administration was “distracted” by last year’s election and ignored recommendations to curb the pandemic, the White House’s former coronavirus response coordinator told congressional investigators this month.

“I felt like the White House had gotten somewhat complacent through the campaign season,” said Deborah Birx, who former president Donald Trump chose in March 2020 to steer his government’s virus response, according to interview excerpts released by the House select subcommittee on the pandemic.
Birx, who sat for interviews with the subcommittee on Oct. 12 and 13, also detailed advice that she said the White House ignored late last year, including more aggressively testing younger Americans, expanding access to virus treatments and better distributing vaccines in long-term care facilities.

More than 130,000 American lives could have been saved with swifter action and better coordinated public health messages after the virus’ first wave, Birx told investigators."

This was obvious from his patter. He and his allies frequently claimed that it was choice between protecting the economy over protecting public health.

That was clear from the start of covid.
Dude doesn't care about people and sadly 75 million people thought he was a better choice. Sadly some of those people are dead now.

She can pound sand.
She stood in the background while Trump encouraged his lickers to inject disinfectant and shove UV light up their asses.
She never once stood up and said that what Trump was saying was a lie.

Imagine how many families were destroyed because this guy thought helping them was a distraction. Unreal that people support these politicians still. Republicans are a cult that stand for nothing except racism and "owning the libs".

I wish we could do what the Brazilian Senate is trying to do to it's president.

A Brazilian Senate committee will vote Tuesday on a report recommending President Jair Bolsonaro face a series of criminal indictments for actions that allegedly added to the world’s second-highest COVID-19 death toll.

The report is the culmination of the 11-member committee’s six-month investigation of the government’s handling of the pandemic. It calls for Bolsonaro to face charges ranging from charlatanism and inciting crime to misuse of public funds and crimes against humanity, and so hold him responsible for many of Brazil’s more than 600,000 COVID-19 deaths.

This is what any rational person knew from the start...........

I swear, the nation must have gotten stupid in a hurry

I think it was already that stupid. He just took advantage of that.

"If only" there had not been a global obesity crisis at the time Covid came along - so many more people would have survived it - so, yeah, a lot of people died unnecessarily. But, Trump had nothing to do with that.

Unfortunately our system is not set up in a way that Trump will ever see justice for the people he killed

From Feb 2020- Inauguration Day (11 months) there were 400,000 American deaths due to Covid.

Since Inauguration Day-yesterday (10 months) there have been 360,000 American deaths due to Covid.
Despite a vaccine for it and a better understanding of how Covid works.

If we are going to be political about it all, we have to wonder whether President Biden has been mismanaging Covid response and not just blame President Trump.

I don't care for the woman since I saw her sitting there listening to that idiot talk about injecting disinfectants or whatever he was babbling about. But this is sure an interesting insight. Not that I'm surprised. All the man ever cared about was getting re-elected.

He should mandate BMI instead of vaccines - now THAT would save lives.

While we are talking about political medicine, how's This? In the early spring of 2020, a NY doctor named Vladimir Zelenko came up with a treatment for Covid which did much like Merck's $700 pill. If given within the first 5 days of symptoms, it reduced both death and hospitalization from Covid. If taken later in the course of the disease, like in hospitals, it was of no benefit, same as Merck. Both were capable of home treatment.

There were significant differences though. Whereas Merck reduced death and hospitalization by about 50%, the Zelenko Protocol of HCQ, Azithromycin and zinc reduced it by about 90%. Whereas Merck costs about $700 per pill, Zelenko's treatment cost about $30 for the entire course of treatment. Merck's pill is treated as the best thing since sliced bread. Zelenko was forbidden to offer his treatment outside of a hospital, on threat of imprisonment and loss of license. Whenever the media mention HCQ, the word "unproven" preceeds it.

Why the difference? Zelenko made the fatal error of bringing his treatment to the attention of Donald J. Trump. As soon as Trump mentioned it, it became a contraband substance (although it was in wide and long use for other diseases, with very little in the way of side effects).

Who benefitted from this ban?
Hospitals, which were irrelevant to Dr. Zelenko's patients.
Pharma, which would have a made a pittance on the out of patent, cheap as dirt drugs of Zelenko's treatment, vs. $700 per pill for a patented drug.
The Democratic Party, which was tearing its hair out trying to figure a way to run against a booming economy, but benefitted tremendously from the Covid induced crash of that economy.
The Media, which are not only a semi-subsidiary of the Democratic Party, but also gained ratings covering a deadly pandemic, which would not have happened with a much less threatening disease.

How many American lives did this cost? I can no more give you an exact figure than Deborah Birx can. My estimate: about 400,000.

dah comrade, fat oafs more likely to die from covid but their obesity doesnt keel me or others. imagine for vtoroy if trump tell ignorant peasants "fat good, eat all you vant". this is equivalency you should to use. So nyet, trump's narcissism and incompetence has much to do with needless covid deaths.

Maybe we'll finally do here what they are working towards in Brazil. I heard on a radio program this morning that a Brazilian senate committee has referred President Bolsonaro of Brazil to the head prosecutor for 'Crimes Against Humanity'. He treated Covid on an eerily similar plane as Trump. Brazil has the highest death rate from Covid next to the US. We can be proud that we're # 1.

Dr. Birx is being generous to Trump. I have seen others ascribe a much higher death toll the the ledgers of Trump's incompetence / reckless disregard for human life.

He should be charged with crimes against humanity.

At least you're honest that you have no desire to save any lives beyond your own nose.

It's obvious to anyone who listens to Trump or reads what he writes that he's been completely obsessed with the election for awhile now. He's probably brought up the election 1000x more than Covid.
Let us not forget that he also contested the 2016 election that he WON and created a commission to investigate voter fraud (and found none) just because the Mango Menace was too much of a child to stand losing the popular vote.

This woman had her chance to resign and go public at the time.

I have very little time for her.

Since he won its been Trump's preoccupation, the 2020 election. Woodward has Trump on the record saying he downplayed the virus, and we know why.

For me the 2020 election loss was all the sweeter knowing how bad he wanted it, and failing bigley. I enjoyed the recounts, its like the film Groundhog Day, he just keeps loosing over and over 😁

At least you're dishonest that you have no desire to respond to what I posted honestly and intelligently. Lets review. the thread is about trump's narcissism and incompetence killing 10s of thousands of Americans. (I think the number is close to 250k) You desperately tried to deflect to obesity. I mocked your deflection and obviously I did it quite well hence your dishonest deflection.
