Effective means to reduce crime

As long as the reason you put draft in quotation marks was to indicate that you were considering non-combat/non-military service options, sure that could be an option.

yes...

Violent crime is a problem in this country.

What type of gun control legislation, laws, or societal changes do you think would be an effective means of reducing violent crime? Please explain how and why it would be effective.

It is always a tough job stuffing the genie back into the bottle.

You are making a false assumption that half of violent crime is caused by blacks. It isn't. Furthermore most drug crimes aren't committed by blacks. No reason to make this about race.

I'm afraid to say it is. At least according to the FBI's own statistics. It really is sad that even though blacks account for only 12% of the population, they make up just over half of all homicides in this country:

Really a topic for a different thread, but considering the number of unknowns and false imprisonments I don't know how accurate that data really is.

I don't see how this is a topic for another thread. Your original post concerned how to reduce or eliminate violent crime in the US. And considering the VICTIMS of said violent crimes (thus is why there's no reason to doubt this as they aren't say the ones perpetrating said crime, but merely counting the bodies which are irrefutable) are predominantly black, then should not the bulk of our efforts be to reduce crime in said areas?

targeting a race in an effort to reduce crime does not make any sense.

Then you should have stated at the beginning that we lib'ruls caused it in all fifty states, instead of pointing just at California without ANY reference whatsoever to the other states. In other words, your implication about blue-state California was clear, I digitally smacked you around, and you're trying to spin (we called it "tap-dancing" in the Navy) your way out of it.
You still made because you perceive that your tiara was damaged? Thats just sad.

If we are concerned by how some of these people come to being, everything will be greatly reduced if we were to get rid of poverty. Once we get rid of poverty, then we can start discussing other avenues. I suggest we reinvest in all schools and libraries.

When 75% of crime is committed by one race, 12% of the population, what then?

Increasing economic opportunity, educational opportunities and decreasing perceptions of societal injustice for the poor. And stop the War on Drugs.

The first proposal could be achieved by offering tax incentives for businesses to move to poor neighbourhoods and hire locally. The second by the government offering interest free loans to people under a certain income to learn a skill or trade (mechanics course, welding/boilermaking, electrical, plumbing, building, that sort of thing, not social studies or liberal arts) that would allow a greater degree of economic mobility, the loan to be paid off gradually once the person is earning a steady wage above a certain amount. The third would require a lot of effort by disinterested parties, and would be very hard to achieve, you would need race baiters and politicians to cut down on propaganda that highlights economic and racial inequality, and training to police forces and the like to help remove the perception of bias in their actions. The fourth is pretty simple, legalise marijuana, decriminalise possession of other recreational drugs and cooperate with neighbouring nations to target cartels and importers.

Crime is caused predominately by lack of education, lack of economic opportunity and a sense of isolation or lack of power. Remove those, and a lot of crime will go away.

Toss the gun control legislation that is patently wrong as there is no known causal relationship.

All crime problems lead to social problems which is where the legislation money, effort and resources should be aimed. Not wasted on useless gun control.

Drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, overcrowding, unemployment, disparity between rich and poor, education, parenting......

The majority of crime is committed by people who have no hope or concept of being gainfully employed and being self-sufficient. This may not seem like much but it is a total loss of dignity, self-pride and worth in a normal society. Only a blind fool would think controlling guns is going to fix that, pointing to a lack of education.

All of these social problems are expensive to change and do not suit government policy. Dependants are wanted by government not self-sufficient educated and thinking people. It suits government better to give people money, food, housing.... handouts than fix the problems causing them.

Gun control is a triple win to government. It makes the citizen fools happy, it employs more government officials and gives government a great deal more power by removing opposition capability and hope of opposition (thoughts). That is all gun control can ever do.

makes more sense than targeting legal gun owners given less than 1/100 legal gun owners will be convicted of a felony while 30% of black males will be.
