Economy Sheds 20,000 Jobs But Rate Drops to 9.7 Percent

No one can state anything with confidence on a subject like this.

Messed up how the unemployment rate goes down even though the jobless keep growing.

That is a striking chart.

Messed up how the unemployment rate goes down even though the jobless keep growing.

People who do not collect unemployment. I have not worked since last march but have not collected unemployment so I am not part of the unemployment stats.

People that are no longer collect are not part of the stats.

and this wasn't even put out by the rnc:

The United States Unemployment Rate

2008-01 4.90 Bush, G.W.
2008-02 4.80
2008-03 5.10
2008-04 5.00
2008-05 5.50
2008-06 5.50
2008-07 5.70
2008-08 6.10
2008-09 6.10
2008-10 6.50
2008-11 6.70
2008-12 7.20
2009-01 7.60 Obama
2009-02 8.10
2009-03 8.50
2009-04 8.90
2009-05 9.40
2009-06 9.50
2009-07 9.40
2009-08 9.70
2009-09 9.80
2009-10 10.20
2009-11 10.00
2009-12 10.00
2010-01 9.70

when the number of americans working decreases simultaneous with a .3% decline in the unemployment rate, it only means one thing---SIX POINT THREE MILLION AMERICANS OUT OF WORK MORE THAN SIX MONTHS

a horrendous all time hi

and, yes, absolutely, THAT's the way msnbc, fox and pbs are covering this story

does body language at the white house appear happy to you?

over their 9.7? last week's 5.7?

if not, why not?

Employment is a lagging factor, that trends behind the GDP by many months, sometimes, up to a couple of years. The leading indicator, consumer purchases, began under Bush, and what we are seeing is the fallout from that.

Now, I have a huge case against Obama, who I believe is running our economy into a ditch. Yes, we are going to see some short-term improvement under Obama, but at what cost? It is that cost that is going to cause this attempt at a recovery to be short-lived.

However, having said that, I'll be damned if I am going to be enough of a douchebag to lie, and in the process, give a free pass to the one who was in office when this all began. Screw the political bullcrap. I love my country too damn much to get caught up in that, so I will just tell it like it is. The recession began under Republican leadership. Democratic leadership is exacerbating the problem. And the foundation on which the Great Recession was built was provided amply by both parties. So spin away to your heart's content. Nobody with more than half a brain is going to pay attention.

wow, you're good

1. employment is lagging indicator

2. obama's running into a ditch

3. lying is bad

you left out 2 + 2 = 4

Nobody with half a brain is going to pay attention.

with all due respect, i sure seem to have gotten your attention

i kinda wish i hadn't, but it's cool

4. bush was a loser

absolutely

feel better?

Thanks for posting the numbers that way. It gives us a good visual of how it took time for the Cheney/Bush trainwreck to reach the top of the pile of **** and now it's starting down the otherside toward recovery. :2wave:

you're welcome, thank you

obama's killing the democratic party

see massachusetts, virginia and new jersey

25 to 30 point swings

and them's the REAL polls, the ones that count

see the status of the sitting senators

see the comprehensively out-of-reach agenda: the civilianizing of the terrorists, the closing of gitmo, the cap and trade, the international climate accords, the wall street reg reform, the reach out to china and russia, the personal diplomacy with iran, the health ca...

all now empty dreams

see the pivots and improvisations, the impromptu policies pushed then pulled back

see the calls for shake up---rahm, holder, geithner, gibbs, not long for this world

see the diminished presidency, shrinking by its own doing, it's dictates and mandates, its secrets and bribes, its attacks and paybacks, its arrogant inability to hear

have a nice weekend

This is poetry:

This is poetry on drugs:

Any questions?

i love frost, america's laureate

thanks

but obama's destruction of the democrat party is not poetry

did you hear thursday that dead dodd had to declare his deliberations on financial reform at an IMPASSE?

Financial reform talks halted - Victoria McGrane - POLITICO.com

obama's #2 domestic item, reg reform supplanted cap and trade, which is kaput, on sept 1, if i remember correctly

the evening axelrod announced the white house's "new" direction

yes, the white house in sept moved reg reform up and cap and trade down, everything naturally taking backseat to health ca...

dead dodd's banking committee, we learn this week, is experiencing the very bellyaches that so bothered baucus' finance cmte on health ca...

it's too late to comeback

any change obama tries to affect now is seen as phony

he's been too extreme

he's incompetent, to boot

sorry

do you do eliot?

prufrock?

do prufrock, friend

shall i part my hair behind, do i dare to eat a peach...

like i said, you're good

TS Eliot is great, but my favorite is Dylan Thomas.

How about the Dow close to falling below 10,000. Is that also a lagging factor?

And that pile of **** in the White House isn't even buying us dinner first.
Touche'

The sad and not so funny part being that it's necessary to keep us from the gang rapping that could have happened.

I prefer "the Professor"

Well, do you like the prospects of a strong dollar or not:lol:

That will not happen with Obama putting us deeper in debt. No comment on the dow losing again

Quit complaining and sell short, or invest in bonds, or invest in currency.

No I have a money market and thats it. When the capitalist of this country bring back the economy I will see what I want to do. Right now the market and money is not dependable with Obama doing nothing.

U.S. payrolls unexpectedly fell in January, but the unemployment rate surprisingly dropped to a five-month low

Are people really celebrating this? We lost jobs, but the unemployment rate went down... This isn't a good thing, it doesn't show growth at all. It shows that massive amounts of people no longer qualify for unemployment benefits but are still unemployed.

This country is going to get real exciting when Obama breaks out the Kool-aid.

No comment on the rise of the dollar? :2wave: You are going to have to put up a little more effort or think with objectivity. Otherwise you will only come up short.

If you are not a swing/day trader.... Why not be long? (unless of course if you are quite old )

lol, I was under the impression that the rise of the dollar had to do with the failure of other currencies. If we are printing money to solve our problems, and still seeing the value of the dollar rise, there are most likely other factors involved
