http://in.news.yahoo.com/139/20091225/981/tsc-earth-s-north-magnetic-pole-racing-t.html said:Washington, December 25 (ANI): A new research has determined that Earth's north magnetic pole is racing toward Russia at almost 40 miles (64 kilometers) a year due to magnetic changes in the planet's core.
The core is too deep for scientists to directly detect its magnetic field. But researchers can infer the field's movements by tracking how Earth's magnetic field has been changing at the surface and in space. ow, according to a report in National Geographic News, newly analyzed data suggest that there's a region of rapidly changing magnetism on the core's surface, possibly being created by a mysterious "plume" of magnetism arising from deeper in the core.
Won't it affect GPS systems?Has anyone else heard about this?
I thought it was just a bunch of new age non-sense but now there is some research coming out which may suggest it's true. I wonder what the potential ramifications could be.

Earth's Inconstant Magnetic Field
Our planet's magnetic field is in a constant state of change, say researchers who are beginning to understand how it behaves and why.
Well, could such a device be created? If so, this shouldn't do much, except increase the cost of GPS devices significantly.Absolutely, unless there was a correcting calibration device designed in the sattelites.
This has been going on since this planet was created. It's natural.
Then there is the curious question as to why the ancient calenders end in 2012.
Ideas have been offered as to why but no one really knows for sure.
I wonder if the full polar shift might occur around 2012? Most likely all this is just your basic horse-poop, but it's entertaining to ponder just the same.
The ancient calendars don't end in 2012. That's a myth. The Mayan calendar doesn't, the Egyptian one didn't etc.
Won't it affect GPS systems?
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a U.S. space-based radionavigation system that provides reliable positioning, navigation, and timing services to civilian users on a continuous worldwide basis -- freely available to all. For anyone with a GPS receiver, the system will provide location and time. GPS provides accurate location and time information for an unlimited number of people in all weather, day and night, anywhere in the world.
Oddly, Obama's does though. The ancient calendars don't end in 2012. That's a myth. The Mayan calendar doesn't, the Egyptian one didn't etc.

You don't say.
What's with all the reports on the I-ching, Mayan, etc., ending in 2012, about?
Let's Google!
I'm gonna start with "2012 myth."
Won't it affect GPS systems?
This makes me dizzy just thinking about it; what with the hanging upside down and all.
Hey, if the Aussies can do it, you can do it.
I hadn't thought about that. They have these "Hangs-up" contraptions where you basically stand on your head to straighten your spine. I should try that and see how it will work when this change comes about. I guess our North Pole will become our South Pole and vice-versa. They'll have to rewrite all the history and geography books. I see conspiracy by the book publishers stoking this story up don't you?
