Has anyone else heard about this?

I thought it was just a bunch of new age non-sense but now there is some research coming out which may suggest it's true. I wonder what the potential ramifications could be.

I have been talking about that for a while. Check the "global warming" threads.

I'm just waiting for someone to blame THAT on greenhouse gasses. :rofl

But I'm glad you started the thread. There's a lot of interesting stuff out there in cybor land addressing the polar shift, ice age cycle returning, etc....

I just read some reports proclaiming that the scientific data suggests that WHEN the climate shift happens, it only takes about 2 months to happen. At least, the last time it happened only took 2 months.

Then there is the curious question as to why the ancient calenders end in 2012.

Ideas have been offered as to why but no one really knows for sure.

I wonder if the full polar shift might occur around 2012? Most likely all this is just your basic horse-poop, but it's entertaining to ponder just the same.

Well, could such a device be created? If so, this shouldn't do much, except increase the cost of GPS devices significantly.

I know... but human civilization has never been at this level before (that we know of), so it could have big consequences. I just read that wherever the poles shift to, the arctic hole in the ozone layer will follow. So in theory, the hole could shift over a populated country, causing increased cancer rates.
 

The ancient calendars don't end in 2012. That's a myth. The Mayan calendar doesn't, the Egyptian one didn't etc.

If the planet rools on it's side in the same manner as last time, looks like the lower part of the US is in the clear for the most part.

actually it has also been reported that 'the end of the Mayan calendar' coincides with the solar system crossing the equatorial plane of the galaxy resulting in major changes in our magnetic norms

Actually, no. GPS has nothing to do with the earth's magnetic fields. It's all about clocks.

The Mayan calendar aspect just celebrates the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one, but it wasn't the end of their entire calendar as many are proposing. The 2012 phenomenon started with a few new age writers in the 1970's - they didn't use archeological data whatsoever, just a bunch of assumptions - and didn't gain much attention until the past few years or so.

Real archeological data does not point to an end of any kind.

From what I understand of how GPS works, I don't think the polls would affect their ability to locate you.

Each of 3 satellites pick up your signal and measure the distance you are from them based on signal strength. Each satellite virtually creates a sphere around itself, representing all possible places you could be, since it doesn't know exactly where your signal came from.

Each of the 3 satellites compare their sphere of your signal to sphere's of the other 2 satellites. Where all 3 virtual spheres intersect are your possible locations.

All 3 spheres intersect twice. One intersection is on the planet surface, the other intersection is in space. The system disregards the location in space and reports the surface location.

I'm not sure how a poll shift would affect that unless a magnetic event disrupted the satellite's computers, altered it's orbit, or similar.

I hadn't thought about that. They have these "Hangs-up" contraptions where you basically stand on your head to straighten your spine. I should try that and see how it will work when this change comes about. I guess our North Pole will become our South Pole and vice-versa. They'll have to rewrite all the history and geography books. I see conspiracy by the book publishers stoking this story up don't you?
 


I'm thinking that Santa better call Two Men and a Truck. Looks like he might have to move.
