My only gripe with 5.5e is that starting stats and feat are connected to background. This prevents me from combining a feat like lucky with an increase in strength (which would be a good combo for a champion fighter). I preferred the custom lineage rules from Tasha's Guide to Everything where the character creation system was more customizable.

However, from a community standpoint, if Musk does buy Hasbro or WoTC and tries to make changes to D&D, then I suspect the community response will be like it was last year when WoTC tried to change their third party licensing. Everyone just bought Pathfinder books. This time around though, the Pathfinder books are already on various bookshelves and D&D 5.5e has few source books (just the player's guide and the dungeon master's guide), so its a low hurdle to move systems at this point.

People still play Dungeons & Dragons?

No problem with kiddie porners, the OP, but he is willing to set his hair on fire over a fantasy game tweaking its fantasy realms and worlds?

Hmmmm.
Yeah, some people are in an uproad because instead of the race of elves, elves are now a lineage, dwarven race vs dwarven lineage, and so on.

Its an extremely minor change.

Read about in The Guardian this morning. Much more balanced read.

Grown ass people getting bent out of shape over dungeons and dragons, though...

🤣🤣🤣

I'm thinking too much time stuffed in their lockers could be factoring in here...

I play pretty much every week, but at the end of the day, its just a game and many of those same stories can be told using other rpg systems.

If Elon decides to break the game, that's fine, a new player's guide is only $30.

Personally, I would try to use that situation to get my group involved in this: https://peginc.com/savage-settings/rifts/

Yeah, you don't strike me as the type to go to pieces over a game going "woke", whatever that means. That's some locker stuffing fan boy shit right there.

I tried it a few times, as a kid and as an adult, but i can't keep up with the conversational nature of it. Somehow it's simultaneously too fast and too slow a pace for me. I think i could get into it over a platform like this, where I could type instead of talk. It would help with the pacing, and allow me to go back and look over things I may have forgotten.

But I probably wouldn't cry about the word "race" being changed to "lineage". ;)

Why?

Does it include handicapped people or something?

Caring for the homeless?

Loving strangers?

The Jesus parts of the Bible?

We are running a 5.5e game right now, even though that is the version that Musk has defined as woke.

I like it for the extra feat at character creation and increased mechanical options for optimizing a character.

You may want to look into the savage world's rules system. It is optimized for a faster cycle of turns around the table and makes combat go more smoothly.

It was actually ancestry. I got that wrong and was thinking of the Custom Lineage rules from Tasha's. These are all similar words that basically mean the same thing in this context and I tend use them interchangeably.

In the new version, Paladins can be outright assholes and be a conquistador type personality and still get all the divine benefits (Oath of Conquest).

I would say it's gone the other way in that regard.

If you ever take one online, lemme know. I'll make the "wokest" character ever and name him (though I might mess the gender a lil... lol) Melon Usk. 🤭

We got one guy in the group who is the whitest on white Champion Fighter. It's actually a pretty funny caricature.

Probably the most "woke" character we have is a guy named Ken Healya (great name!) and he is a Peace Domain Cleric.
