Beyond taking the remark out of revered "context", which many on the left claim is absolutely reprehensible when their ox is being gored, I always look to television to provide my moral direction. Always.
Happy New Year. I'm pleased that Duck Dynasty is now central to both political and moral discussion. Television personalities offer such fine moral, political and social guidance for the rest of us. Survivor is an excellent example of individuals putting high moral content on screen for us to emulate, for example. Then there's Honey Boo-Boo. Who could ask for more? I have no idea exactly who's life might be wrapped up in this stuff other than the stars themselves, but it's of central interest to some. Possibly the same people who read the tabloids at the checkout in the grocery store. I heard that Phil's wife first gave birth at 7 to a baby duckling...I'm personally pleased to know I'm in good company, since I always look to television for guidance, too.
Good morning, humbolt. :2wave:
“Look, you wait ‘til they get to be 20 years old the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They’ll pick your ducks."

Heh. Absolutely, it's time to move on. The Ducks have had their moment in the lime light. We have a promising crop of others to harvest wisdom from: Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Fifty-Cent, Snoop Dog, Jay-Z - there's no shortage. There's some show about alligator hunting on, too. I wonder what those guys think about gay marriage, homosexuality, and such stuff? My first thought is that they'd better like them a lot, because their ratings aren't high enough to say otherwise. In any event, as thoroughly modern folks with a sound-byte attention span, I think Phil Robertson's time is up. Let's move on to Beyoncé blocking out Jesus in a "Last Supper" pic and apologizing to NASA.
I am behind the times. Typical conservative, longing for a previous time. Snoopzilla, huh? Would it be racist if I referred to him as Snoopjirra? How do these guys even remember their names from one day to the next? Puff Daddy has gone through so many changes I don't know where he's ended up, or if he's ended up anywhere at all. He surely didn't start from anything memorable. I am going to dig out my copy of The Annotated Alice and read it again. I don't know precisely why, but it seems appropriate.Humbolt, you aren't hep to the jive. Snoop Dogg changed his name to Snoop Lion, but this hasn't worked out, so he's now Snoopzilla. Keep up with these cheap mediocrities, will you?

And it might have something to do with the fact that yanking a 15 yr old girl out of school, usually followed by a quick impregnation, means that she will be unable to support herself or her children in the future, because she doesn't have the education or ability to do so. Teaching young girls that they must rely on men to care for them for their entire lives might be Phil's idea of utopia, but it sure as hell isn't mine.
"Phil's time" was in the freaking 1960's... you know, hippies, free love, bra burning? He was not a product of the Victorian Age, for god sake. I was around in the 1960's, and believe me, women had the same hopes and dreams for their future then as they do now.
As for your statement about women today having no concept of being a home maker, I guess you'd have to describe what your concept of a home maker might be. If it's toiling from dusk to dawn polishing, mopping, cleaning toilets, changing diapers, getting meals on the table for menfolk, washing dishes and scrubbing the kitchen then bending over for a quick, perfunctory poke before falling into an exhausted sleep in order to get up and do the entire thing all over again, day after day for the rest of her life... then yes, yes I can agree that most of "today's women" would prefer a more varied and interesting life... including the joy of educating themselves, preparing for a time when the children are grown enough that they can actually do something that fulfills them as a person, rather than being just a cross between an unpaid maid and a free whore for their entire lives.

Fortunately, you don't have to choose. Your options are virtually unlimited for both entertainment and education. Television is only one of them. I've never watched either program I mentioned. I've just heard of them, and am amazed at the reaction to a bunch of duck hunters on a reality show, of all things. There are other things more worthy of attention, I think. When I have to choose between Duck Dynasty and Honey Boo Boo, I choose Honey Boo Boo. They might be a weird family but they have their hearts on the right place.
I see, so a woman who loves her family that doesn't work, doesn't work towards a career, and a future without children is an unpaid maid, and free whore for a man who finds himself lucky enough to get her.. You sound somewhat bitter.. Were you an unpaid maid and free whore at some point in your life, Dianna? My wife, as an example, if you asked her would tell you that she takes a tremendous amount of pride in the fact that she runs our household. We have money, yet she will not hire a maid, even though I've offered countless times, and guess what? I actually have to romance my wife if I want some nookie.. I wonder what she'd say if I showed her your idea of what she must be like, simply because she likes doing what she does..
You need to get over yourself, frankly. You're what Rush Limbaugh refers to as a "feminazi", or at least you sound like one based on your post. By the way, the 60's were not all about free sex and drugs sweetie. Some of us were still productive, my guess is you weren't one of them, and chose to partake in all the fun?

'Duck Dynasty' Star Phil Robertson Advises Men To Marry 15-Year-Old Girls (VIDEO)
I beg your pardon? Marry 'em young before they reach the ripe old age of 20 and come after your money?
So 2 men/women having consensual sex while both being over 18 is a sin but statutory rape or marrying 15 year old girls is not a sin?
The thing that isn't a crime is a sin and people should not do that but the thing that is a crime is promoted by this bible wielding preacher?
Girls should not be getting married at age 15, men who commit sex with girls of 15 years should be jailed for pedophilia and people who promote such behavior should have their heads examined.
But I am sure that even this kind of thinking will be defended by some because Phil Robertson is speaking from his own experience (marrying his wife when she was 16).
I loved the time I was able to stay home and raise my children. However, when they were in school I also was able to work toward some of my own dreams and ambitions, and still managed to take care of my family. Your original post indicated that unless a teenaged girl put herself totally under the care of a man for her entire life, forfeiting any interests she might have outside the home, that she would never be a "proper" home maker, which is rubbish. You also espoused that girls... not women, but girls in their teens... make better wives with longer marriages because their "prefrontal cortex" was not yet wired, implying that she was still "trainable." That, sir, is offensive.
And now your insults turn personal, because your opinions are certainly worth reading but my dissenting opinion means I need to "get over myself." What's more, you make the accusation that I am not only a "feminazi" because I do not think teenaged girls should be married off while still trainable and before they are educated enough to take care of themselves, you go on to accuse me of doing drugs and being a promiscuous slut. Well done, fine Christian man, well done indeed.
I'll have you know that I was quite productive in the 1960's. I finished high school, managed to get in some college, had a full-time job and supported myself until I chose to marry and have children. Quite productive indeed. Later in life, I also managed to support a family first by myself, then with my second husband and his children, and worked every day of my life until health matters took their toll.
To sum it up, I never did drugs, was a virgin on my wedding night and am only a "feminazi" to men like yourself who believe women should be scooped up shortly after puberty, trained and impregnated before they are able to educate themselves and discover that they are, indeed, actual people.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Education comes in many forms, moreover, YOU were the one to bring out the slave to her man, and slut on demand narrative.
You're moving the goal posts, Dianna. Again it was YOU that implied that the 60's were a free for all, and that traditional female roles were dwindling for a more sufferage approach. While that was true for some women and men of the 60's, it was most certainly NOT the norm, and all I did was point it out.
I am not ashamed of myself, nor should I be.
When I met my wife, I was 35, she was 18. If you asked my wife, she would tell you without any hesitation that she is happy being a homemaker, loving Mother, and awesome wife. I already had two children when I met her (from first marriage), and she became their step Mom and loves them as much as she does her own two children. In her spare time, she's always educating herself with online classes geared toward early childhood education, of which she wishes to pursue when our children are fully independent. I do not say she can't, in fact I support her doing so, even though she never has to work an actual outside the home career for the rest of her life if she didn't want to. A feminazi, to me, is a woman, like the opinions I perceive you to have, that looks down on women like my wife. I take that personally, and it is offensive to me, and the great many women just like her."
If you'd actually read my words instead of shoving your own words into my mouth and repeatedly judging me for what I had never said, you'd realize that I also cherished the time I was able to spend as an at-home mother, and it is not your wife I look down upon. It is you... you and men like you who take a malleable teenager young enough to be your daughter, and train her for subservient obedience. Despite your obvious pride that you have not forbidden your wife from pursuing her future dreams (in her "spare" time, of course), the fact that you felt it necessary to mention that implies your "permission" was nonetheless required. That is my opinion, based upon what you have actually said, not what I perceive you to have said.
I'm done here. Have a nice day.
