French protesters accuse the government of undemocratically passing controversial labor reforms
The protests began earlier this month, when France’s Socialist government forced through a labor reform bill that makes it easier for companies to hire and fire employees and relaxes regulations protecting workers’ pay and working hours.
Opponents of the reforms accused the government of using anti-democratic meansto push them through without a parliamentary vote. Activists held demonstrations and one of France’s largest labor unions, the CGT, called for nationwide strikes.
Meanwhile, unions voted Wednesday to start strikes at French nuclear power stations, and public transport workers have joined the strikes, causing travel chaos. Unions have also called for country-wide walk-outs and protests to take place on Thursday.
American companies have NO IDEA how easy they have it. The French know how to strike!

The French never forget their revolution like we do.
The conservatives are going to keep pushing American labor around, and THIS is what they're going to get as a result The hand writing is on the wall right now. The French have always conducted their strikes on a nationwide level. American compaines are gonna be dreaming about "the good old days" when they were kings.
I must have missed something. Are the French taking over America? Are we talking French French or Canadian French? The Canadian French are easier to get along with but the French French are better cooks. Hmm..this is a toughie...which do I want, which do I want?
No. We're talking about how the French strike and what's on the horizon for US strikes as well.

The US is too big in scale for a national strike like the French seem to enjoy.
well since most workers in those area's can't strike there is little to fear.
unlike france we don't deem shutting down national travel as a good thing.
over there they strike over the simplest of things they are quite common very disruptive
and they basically hold the entire country hostage.
there is a different view in here in America as well.
unless the people have a valid reason for striking any strike is not viewed in favor of the workers.
Americans are above strikes man.
History Repeating.
It's rather ****ed up to see, actually, after the show of patriotism that came from them last year with the attacks on Paris.
But Americans have seen their share of labor-related strikes that turn violent. It often happens in connection with Unions.
That has WHAT to do with the topic?
France's Socialist policies have chased out capital investment including American companies that used to use French labor.
You claim that kind of anti-business anti corporate nonsense is coming here ? That nonsense led to a 77% drop in foreign investment a year after Hollande raised taxes to 75%
Predictably, the tax took in far less than advertised before it was dropped. But there was no mass exodus of rich people from the country. You don't get to be rich by paying taxes; you get rich by shielding your money from the tax man.

What on earth is dramatic with those pictures? Looks like normal demonstrations in Europe, and especially in France. You see in Europe, we are actually allowed to demonstrate unlike in the US, where the police hit down on any and all protests that are not backed by the big corporations...

There were many who could not strike in the 1920s and 30s either. The trick was "respect for picket lines". Those strikes were huge and advanced peoples rights on the job and raised wages and benefits. Those were the days when, like the French, American had drawn the line and stood their ground and corporations got a big does of reality and who CAN make changes and American business profited greatly during those times. American companies have had it very very easy for some time now, like labor had it very very easy for some time as well. The pendulum however is swinging back the other way and if American companies don't read the writing on the wall, the "French style" will certainly reopen here in the US.
I just hope sanitation workers ever do a nationwide strike. That would be holding the entire country hostage. I would be the first one voting to give them whatever they demand.
LOL.. American companies have never really been welcomed in France. The American arrogance towards France did that to American companies. As for chasing out capital investment.. what do you base that on?
And you can of course back this up with actual figures right?
