Too many took public education for granted too long. It's hideous that teachers make so little. They have one of the most important jobs one can have, and we pay them crap, then castigate them. It's underfunded top to bottom and in most localities actually paying for education leans on property taxes, rather than general income. Cue great diversity in quality of education and resistance to raising property tax to pay for the X,Y,Z the school needs.

Then I pop over to a news media source and see some guy turning down $440,000,000 to hit a ball around for 15 years. And while that no doubt makes economically, it's revealing. That's where priority lies. "I want my entertainment!" A public good like education? "psssssshhhhh. . . why should I pay for your kids!?"

An awful lot of our ills proceed from there.

They got a pass on all things (but only Catholics) and a piece of the conquest pie. The Vatican also got a huge chunk of the wealth through Papal Bulls, legalizing conquest of indigenous peoples for their land, the resulting slavery and theft of property were signed in the early 1,100's.

There is a lot of blood on the hands of anyone who claims mastery of the world and being "God on earth". You cannot even be "holy" when ordering the slaughter of an entire religion such as the Crusades

The Vatican has been an enabler to the greatest slaughters in history.
