New polling shows that President Donald Trump's approval rating has plummeted among baby boomers, a demographic that helped him win back the White House in 2024. Older Americans helped Trump triumph in the 2024 election. But their opinions of the Republican president may have shifted amid concerns about cuts to the nation's safety net programs—Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Losing support from a key demographic that helped put Trump back in the White House could cause difficulty for the administration in implementing an ambitious agenda. The Economist/YouGov polls conducted between March 9 and March 11 among 1,699 adults and March 16 and March 18 among 1,618 adults found Trump's approval rating fell among all age demographics. While his rating dropped by two or three points among those aged 18 to 29, 30 to 44 and 45 to 64, the decline among those over 65 was considerably more.

The same survey conducted between March 16 and March 18 found his net approval rating had dropped by 10 points to -9. In that survey, only 45 percent of people over 65 approved of the job Trump was doing, while 54 percent disapproved. Inflation and prices were another issue on which Trump's approval rating took a hit among people over 65. His net approval rating on the issue was -7 in the earlier poll, with 44 percent approving and 51 percent disapproving, but it had dropped to -15 (41 percent approving and 56 percent disapproving) in the more recent poll.

Trumps polling numbers among most age groups is tumbling. Especially among American seniors. Trump/Musk/GOP want to privatize Social Security (when the markets crash, so does your Social Security nest-egg).

But Trump doesn't actually care. He's in the White House for 4 more years now thanks to a slim majority of American voters (Trump received 49.8% of the vote, Harris received 48.3% of the votes cast).

The long-running 538 data, a compilation of a number of polls, is interesting. Beginning on the 10th of this month, the percent negative began to rise. The crossover point, where the negative percent became greater than the positive percent, came soon after on 3/11. The negative percent continued to climb as the positive percent started to fall, reaching their maximum difference, 2.4%, on 3/20. Today, the negative percent is 0,4% lower than the peak, at 49.4%. The positive percent has regained o.3%, at 47.7%.

Only 2.9% remain undecided.

Regards, stay safe 'n well . . . informed.

ABC shut down 538 a few weeks ago.

Whatever you're looking at is out of date.

Boomers wrecked the environment and the country for ever... no one gives a damn about their feelings anymore.

Old people are moving D and young people are moving R.
I read that younger adults are more likely to approve of his handling of the economy.

Strange days.

Old people are moving D and young people are moving R.

Yeah.... no. Trump is tanking among all age groups.

In fact, he is polling at historically record lows now for any modern president. So much for his "mandate".

So you think young people are now wiser than old people. My what a difference a few years makes.
How I love it when people tell me what I think. No, I don't think that at all.

Why not surprise me and tell me what you think instead of what you think I think. I already know what I think.

Plunges may be the wrong word. Trump’s overall job approval according to RCP averages 48.1% approve/ 48.8% disapprove. A slight plurality disapproves.

Now baby boomers, I equate them to 65 and older. Trump won baby boomers over Harris by just a single point, 50-49. Baby boomers weren’t what I would call avid Trumpers.

If you take as a base line among baby boomers, who they voted for, currently according to YouGov, baby boomers only, 65 and older, 52% approve/47% disapprove of the job Trump is doing so far. That’s close to being identical to the 50-49 margin Trump won Boomers by.

Fact is there’s been little movement on Trump’s overall job approval since he took office. Back then it was 49.3% approve/47.5% disapprove compared to today’s 48.1% approve/ 48.8% disapprove. The difference is within the MOE of the polls of plus or minus 3 points.

I think plunges is a bit exaggerated. What we have is a slow, a very slow downward trend.

I think that in general young people are more idealistic than old people. I think old people are more easily frightened than young people. I think old people respond to campaigns that sow fear and division, and young people respond to campaigns that are idealistic.

And I think both old and young people are souring on the Trump administration.

If ANY group should be pissed that Trump has a NAZI in charge of cutting their benefits it should be BOOMERS.

I think young people don't believe they are going to get SS when they retire. I also think older people realize on some level that SS is a ponzi scheme and are worried the pyramid is running out of new people at the bottom just when they are cashing in.

And I think both old and young people are souring on the Trump administration.
I think Trump has the highest approval rating of his entire political career, especially among younger voters.

Thats the propaganda from the right having the desired effect.

There will always be "some" stupid people that believe propaganda.
and are worried the pyramid is running out of new people at the bottom just when they are cashing in.
If they knew anything, they would know that this has been seen, planned for but not all solutions have been applied.

Thats not what you link shows.
