donald trump To Appear By Video As Judge Reinforces Ban On Attacking Witnesses

The judge is having to tell trump a second time what the rules are on what he can and can't say publicly regarding the Stormy Daniels felony case.

The judge has already told him once, apparently it didn't sink in. I'm not surprised.

While his lawyers do have to show up in person, trump doesn't. He is going to do it by video.

This is just another case of him getting special treatment because he's an ex president. I don't believe he should get any special treatment. He should be treated the same as any other person who is indicted on a felony.

If he doesn't follow the rules this time he risks a contempt charge.

 
I don't have a problem with the ex-president being able to appear by video. It would be too disruptive and expensive to have him appear in person for something like this that could easily be accomplished without him there.

Ex-Presidents aren't the same as the rest of us, and that's ok.

Why couldn't Trump be made to bear the cost of the necessary precautions? It's not like the taxpayers committed the crime. Personally, I believe he should be treated just like any other citizen. If he want's security, then he should pay for it.

He travels the country all the time doing non court related events. If a court related event requires any extra security other than his normal SS protection, then yes, he should pay for it. It has been said that his golf excursions cost the taxpayers 5 times the salary he donated. And you're worried about a trip to Manhattan?

In my mind, Trump is a non-important person. Look at all the hype built up for his first appearance and maybe 2 dozen people showed up. This guy is nothing more than an ex-president low life criminal that needs to drag his own fat ass to court. Just like the rest of us.

I disagree. We are a country that opposes any form of nobility, even implied.

It's not remotely like nobility, you're being dramatic because you hate Trump. I get it, i hate him too.

Nope, I would hold the same standard for any former president. One of the very philosophical foundations for this country is that we are all equal. This is true for everyone. The billionaire industry titan is no more or less equal to the bum in the gutter. The preacher is no more or less equal to the farmer. At least this is a national ideal that we should strive to.

There is no open administrative reason to hold any former official to any sort of different social position.

He should physically be in court or every other defendant should have the video option.

If there was a medical or other restraint that alters physical capabilities, then sure.

He shouldn't get any treatment over and above what any other former president gets. Shielding him from his court appearances is a gray area since it's never happened before. Let's not set a precedent that says former presidents get special treatment when they're under criminal indictment. It should be the other way around. A president is supposed to set the example.

People need to think twice when planning to break U.S. laws. Show him in cuffs. Show his mug shot publicly. Drag him through the same trial proceedings as everyone else.
 
After Covid, most courts allow for Zoom participation, based on distance alone. Trump qualifies, but I also agree he shouldn't have any extra privileges--such as breaking the law.

I don't think Trump knows how to comply with orders he disagrees with. I expect this judge will find himself needing 24 hour protection if he ever holds Trump in contempt. I'm pretty amazed and thrilled he's not using this consideration to ignore Trump's antics. Talk about courage. :)

The sad fact is that the dude is simply not going to jail. They'd basically have to build him his own, along with stuff for the secret service detail he is entitled to for life. I mean..they could just throw him in gen pop, say whatever, and let the inevitable happen. But they won't.

At most he'll get cushy house arrest.

No, my problem is with him having to be told twice what the law is.

Everyone else would have only been told once. If they had violated what they were told, they wouldn't be told again, they would be found in contempt of court and probably either fined or put in jail.

If anyone else was told the rules of the case the went out and violated those rules, that person would face either a fine or jail time for contempt of court.

No one else is there so he and his SS detail are safe from other inmates.

He can have the whole prison to himself.

Oh i totally agree with that. He should have just been charged with contempt instead of getting a mulligan from the court.
