He is going back to the old law of the fairness doctrine, which the Republicans let expire - that didn't age well, at all.
It is true that broadcast TV has limitations as to their content, but they can legally produce completely one sided political shows and the gov't can't touch them. And any attempt to do so would only fail in court.
I understand Trump's frustrations. As a conservative who knows that 6 out of the top 7 news media is completely in the tank for the Democrat Party - and without that near monopoly - they would be in huge trouble in elections.

It is unfair, it is over the top bad - but the Republicans set this up back in 1987 when they let the fairness doctrine expire.
