Or is it the leadership themselves who are unwilling to compromise which has brought us to the place we are at in the now gop run house?

The democrats are just about begging the house republicans to get their stuff together so we can have to participating parties governing america.

Nothing is getting done with no speaker. Is this acceptable to you regardless of your party?

It’s pretty clear by now that the grand Republican plan is “Everything will sort itself out.”

Forty years of running on the platform that government is incompetent and this is what you get. I have no idea how they’re going to work their shit out, but knowing how Republicans think, it’s almost certainly an iteration of trying to intimidate Democrats into voting for whatever shitbag they put forward in order to circumvent their own members or there won’t be be a budget.

Oh wait, that’s exactly what they’re going to try to do.

All I can say is the suffering from a lack of aid to our allies and the suffering of Americans from a prolonged shutdown will forever be remembered as a republican lack of governance. It's not that far away to next November.

You are saying that Democrats will not work with Republicans.

Why are Republicans the ones who must make the concessions?

Or is it the leadership themselves who are unwilling to compromise which has brought us to the place we are at in the now gop run house?
Is there some sort of problem?

The democrats are just about begging the house republicans to get their stuff together so we can have to participating parties governing america.
Very pretty idea but I would like to see evidence.

What I have seen is pretty snarky which makes me skeptical.

How is that different from last month or last year?

This is just the Newt Gingrich philosophy. Essentially it is to never compromise with the opposition party while asking for items that are non starters. The resulting intransigence feeds into the narrative that “government is the problem”. Too many gulled voters fail to see past the subterfuge…

The vast majority of the Repugs in the House basically don't want to even acknowledge the existence of the Democratic Party. Compromise is a dirty word in the Republican Party and it has been for a long time, going back to the beginning of the Tea Party and Jordan's idiot Freedom Caucus.

You can't fix sick, you can't fix incompetent, and you can't fix crazy. Unfortunately, the only solution is simply for the millions of idiot Republican voters in this country to quit voting Republican.

But Republican voters care more about their hatred of Democrats than they do about having a competent government. Sad, but true.

GOP Senators notably silent as if their only choice is to say nothing. Disavowing their fellow R's over on the House side is likely not an option though I suspect they are resigned to the fact that the House R's are loons and that in fact pretty near 30% of Senate R's are not far behind.

I expect they will line up with D's to sign something very similar to what Biden is sending over to them in aid to Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan and border money and then pull their heads back down below the grass line hoping to avoid incoming.

I think both parties must find areas of common ground when majorities are so small. However, it seems that the GOP sees any compromise with the Dems as a political death wish. We have seen this demonstrated and articulated over and over the last few weeks. The Hasert rule should be tossed, it's caused so many bills good for the American people to die and gives cover to the most extreme elements of the party.

Republicans will not stop until America is destroyed. It serves her right for the way she was acting.

Republicans are and have been the party of "no" for many years now. They will vote no for any Democratic sponsored bill, regardless of it's possible benefits to the nation. Sadly, idiotic voters keep electing these folks.

Because they are the party in power. They have options. The only thing the Dems can do is give up the only leverage they have. Why would they do that? As long as the margins are this thin and the Chaos Caucus is still around, it is the GOP who must find a way out of the mess created by their own members.

Historically, that has not been the case. Instead, periods of intense partisanship have been broken by a charismatic leader emerging--Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt.

Because they are the party in power.
So?

It was true two years ago when Democrats had the majority.

They have options. The only thing the Dems can do is give up the only leverage they have. Why would they do that?
Simplistic. In any event, this is not about Democrats.

As long as the margins are this thin and the Chaos Caucus is still around, it is the GOP who must find a way out of the mess created by their own members.
Be clear. Who do you mean when you say Chaos Caucus?

The Freedom Caucus is completely legitimate and it better represents the Republican voters than the old guard.

And that's fine. Then the Republican voters are getting what they want. No governing, just complete disfunction. Good for them. When the Republican voters start losing their various government services they depend on they can reward the "Freedom Caucus" for their service.

What compromises have Democrats offered that they can realistically expect ANY Republican to find acceptable?

If House Democrats really were so eager to solve the Speaker problem so that the House can get back to business, at least some of them would offer to "compromise" by supporting a Republican for Speaker.

Republican voters are getting a Washington caucus that listens to them. That's worth quite a bit.

It's too bad they are so far from the center but that is what the voters want.

It's not going to hurt them in 2024 and will likely help generate turnout. We will see after that.

The right wing propaganda bubble has made it into a purity contest.

References to a right-wing propaganda bubble are straightforward projections of your own bubble.

FYI The right-wing doesn't have a propaganda machine. The closest they get is talk radio which is a blip next to the huge machine you listen to.

Lol. You libs only talk compromise when you are out of power.

If the Democrats were the majority party and they were having an internal civil war like the House Repugs currently are, you would NOT be blaming the Republicans.

This is just blatantly dishonest hypocrisy on your part.

The UK isn't quite as rigid a 2-party system as the US, nor is ours electoralized or indeed gerrymandered in favour of such as deeply as yours (this "registered" Democrat, Republican or Independent thing, do you all have to do it before you first get allowed to vote?) but one of the consequences is that cross-party co-operation gets very publicly minimized. And anything that involves governmental coalition, even with a smaller 3rd party, causes absolute fits of the vapours all across the political spectrum.

If Joe Biden popped his clogs tomorrow I'm sure you'd find a speaker quick enough without needing to be bailed out by the opposition.

Do they vote for their constituents or their party? Or their party's radical wing?

None of the above. The cowards are voting to save their own asses. What many don't seem to realize is the Republicants had a sure thing. Old Joe is, well, old.....by rights he should get his ass kicked; I am on record calling for him to do a Johnson and boot out. But that would require an intelligent alternative to Donald..........."intelligent" being the barrier word.

But, radicals don't have a reverse. And most, like MTG, Gates etc., are as fixated on attention as is their guru, Donald Singh Trump. The result of decades of divide-and-conquer politics, the means being ignored so long as it means the other side did not win. They're not even after victories anymore.

So, without a reverse gear they are doomed to remain mired in the pit, gnawing away at each others' reputations. "We have seen the enemy and he is us...." as Pogo said. Too many selfish, obese religiously Ayn Rand and always right. They have created so many monsters, starting with the "Swamp" idea, that no one believes anyone anymore, the least of which is the voter, who, in desperation will cast their vote for the least objectionable candidate.

With so many monsters the vote will be a scattered array of objections from open carry, to abortions, to LGBTQ rights to abortion and back to abortion. I don't think the lines nor the faces are going to change much, but there will be blood.

If I am not mistaken the UK only allowed party names on the ballot in the 30's. As with Canada.

I would like to see that returned. The voter has nothing but a name to go by. That means that individual will pay for his vote as opposed to being carried by the party like MAGA.

The leadership of the GOP taught their brood that compromise was unacceptable going back to Gingrich.
Now the base is a monster leadership can no longer control.
