Over the years that Trump has been in the public eye, factcheckers have kept track of his frequent lies.................... except.................... his defenders insist that Trump either doesn't lie, or just exaggerates, or is just "trolling" the left. AND the most common defense - well, they ALL lie don't they?

But isn't lying a test of character? Everyone was applauding Jimmy Carter for the life he lived, including conservatives, and a large part of that was for his honesty (even if his foreign policies sucked).

We value honesty, or do we? Is a comfortable lie better than the hearing the truth? Can a man who can't be honest be truly trusted? Or are we labeling someone as a liar who isn't?

So, let's do this, straight up question (hopefully without the deviations and whatabout so and so.....) - Does Donald Trump lie a lot?

After watching that MS-13 debacle I had to start questioning my thoughts on Trump. Does he lie a lot? most things he says are not truth that is for sure.

Does he believe it though? That's the question.

I believe he believed Haitians were eating peoples' pets.

#1, all the time, to where Charlie Brown going for that punt looks smarter than those who still believe his bullshit.

He absolutely lies all the time becasue he knows his audience will either beleive him or admire him for "owning" the libs. However, he is the President and his lies have enormous consequences.

Right? At first I thought he was just bloviating to push the outrage, now I am caught wondering if he really is just an idiot the believes every conspiracy theory he hears.

Constantly.

It’s a mix of 2, 3, and 5.

“ When I win the election, we will immediately begin a brand new Trump economic boom. It’ll be a boom. We’re going to turn this country around so fast. Many people say that they only reason the stock market is up is because people think I am going to win.”
-Donald Trump on campaign trail, 2024

Now in 2025:

"Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, shortly after I win the presidency, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled. I'll get it settled very fast."
-Trump, Aug 2024

There's no reason to wonder.

Some of it is straight up lies, some of it is delusion, some of it's just being a moron (they're eating the dogs!"), and some is just trolling. Why anyone decent person thinks having a trolling spoiled brat moron as our President is good for our country is beyond me.

If his lips are moving, TACO Trump is lying to someone about something.

A really good point.

I think once it comes out of HIS mouth, he does believe it.

The Great and Power Don can do no wrong.

Doesn't matter. A fact is a fact. If he says something that's not factual, just because he believes it, does not make it truth. It's still a lie.

The biggest problem with Trump is he refuses to admit he's ever wrong. Even when proven beyond a reasonable doubt, he doubles down on the lies.

Semitics. Technically if he believes it he isn't lying. Doesn't make it the truth, it just makes him wrong.

I agree with that to a degree, sometimes he just ignores the subject or says "I never said that"

The fact that he can lie/dissemble without any trace of shame is his superpower.

He is a salesman that can sell to half the nation, using half-good acting ability. He is a "B.S." artist. The sad thing is NOT Trump----there are people like him everywhere. The scary part is that so many fall for his crap.

That also shows a poor commentary on society itself.

Yes, Trump lies a lot. What a revelation!

He believes his followers will accept the bullshit he spews out on a regular basis.

Does he believe it though? That's the question.
If he believes his lies, that might be even scarier, and then there are his minions.....................
