Dr Fozia Alvi was making her rounds of the intensive care unit on her final day at the battered European public hospital in southern Gaza when she stopped next to two young arrivals with facial injuries and breathing tubes in their windpipes.
“I asked the nurse, what’s the history? She said that they were brought in a couple of hours ago. They had sniper shots to the brain. They were seven or eight years old,” she said.

Doctors reported treating a steady stream of children, elderly people and others who were clearly not combatants with single bullet wounds to the head or chest. Some of the physicians said that the types and locations of the wounds, and accounts of Palestinians who brought children to the hospital, led them to believe the victims were directly targeted by Israeli troops.

In mid-February, a group of UN experts accused the Israeli military of targeting Palestinian civilians who are evidently not combatants, including children, as they sought shelter.
Eyewitness accounts and video recordings appear to back up claims that Israeli soldiers have fired on civilians, including children, outside of combat with Hamas or other armed groups. In some cases, witnesses describe coming under fire while waving white flags. Haaretz reported on Saturday that Israel routinely fires on civilians in areas its military has declared a “combat zone”.

Usually a shot in the brain from a rifle is going to cause death. An influx of survivors all shot non-fatally in the head is very unusual. Unless we're talking about a BB sniper rifle.

All survivors are non-fatal by definition. Plenty of dead.

“One child, I could see there was a shot to the head. They were doing CPR on this five- or six-year-old girl who obviously died,” said Gupta.

Gupta said that another young child also had a shot to the head and was sent for a CT scan. “The neurosurgeon looked and said, ‘There’s no hope.’

Doctors who worked at the Nasser hospital in southern Gaza said what appeared to be targeted Israeli fire killed more than two dozen people, including children, as they entered or left the hospital in the first weeks of this year.

Among the casualties was 14-year-old Ruwa Qdeih. Doctors say she was shot dead outside the hospital in Khan Younis as she went to collect water. They said there was no fighting in the area at the time and that she was killed by a single shot and then men who went to recover her body were also shot at.

In Gaza City, three-year-old Emad Abu al-Qura was shot outside his home as he went to buy fruit with his cousin, Hadeel, a 20-year-old medical student, who was also killed. The family said they were targeted by an Israeli sniper.

A video of the pair lying together in the street shows Emad still alive after he is first hit and trying to lift his head. More shots hit the ground close by including one that strikes a plank next to Emad. The boy’s mother said he was then hit again and this time killed.

Hadeel’s father, Haroon, saw the shooting.

“The targeting of civilians is very clear. It is a deliberate direct targeting aimed at killing civilians without reason, without there being any events, without there being any resistance. They deliberately killed Hadeel and Emad,” he told Al Jazeera.

Other young victims include 14-year-old Nahedh Barbakh, who was hit by sniper fire alongside his 20-year-old brother, Ramez, as they followed Israeli military orders to evacuate an area west of Khan Younis in late January, according to the Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.

What's Hamas doing? Have they all left Gaza?

Sounds like a bunch of appeals to authority, from a biased source. Hamas says Israeli snipers. I don't believe them. We have no idea who is doing the shooting. Hamas is not above killing their own for propaganda purposes.

Would Hamas be above shooting kids and then blaming it on the IDF? I don't think so.

Did you even read my link?

Haaratz, the UN, International doctors, the parents are saying this.

Haaretz, UN and "international doctors" say a lot of things.

I don't discount that parents may have seen children shot. They are all speaking at the pleasure of Hamas. I am saying they did not see who did it, nobody did, they are claiming it is IDF responsible, because that is the point of why Hamas would do this. This is something terrorists do, not modern professional armies.

The IDF is not a professional army though, as they are mostly made up of conscripts, not professionals.

The US military had incidents of snipers killing kids for fun.

Not that this makes the actions any better, but there has never been a major war where both sides didn't at least have isolated cases of horrific acts.

But somehow the IDF and the IDF alone is the only army that never ever could possibly do anything wrong. Even if it is just individual soldiers. Every single IDF member must be like genetically engineered so it is impossible for them to commit war crimes.

That isn't the metric of a professional army, and the IDF isn't 100 percent conscripts anyway.

Then what is the metric of a professional army? I though it meant they had to be, you know, professionals. Conscripts, who form the majority of IDF ground forces, are not professional soldiers.

You're describing a PMC. Russia is another example of a professional conscript army.

No, you're thinking of a standing army. A standing army can be either professional soldiers, or conscripts. But a professional army is made up of professional soldiers, by definition.

The UN and Haaratz are speaking at the pleasure of Hamas?? Seriously?

Yes. I think if they said things that made Hamas look bad, or that Hamas didn't agree with, they would no longer be welcome, or be free to continue speaking.

You're just wrong. It's fringe even for a conspiracy theory. Did you know the Holocaust was actually done by Jews, in order to blame the Nazis to get sympathy so they could create their own country? Modern professional armies like the Nazis didn't do things like that. I could post plenty of evidence about the issue, but don't see a point.

More delusion. You know who ACTUALLY is shutting down press for saying the truth they don't like? Israel (Worse than Hamas). They just passed a law to let the government shut down any press they want, without one vote against it except the Arab members, and Netanyahu immediately said he is banning Al Jazeera from the country, lying outrageously that Al Jazeera was involved in the 10/7 attack.

A modern professional army.
