Of course there's also this thanks to the seventies.Ah, the 1970's! Great music, some good TV shows, gas shortages, high interest rates, stagflation, the decline of unions, terrorism and high jacking, the a Cultural Revolution killing millions, the Cold War at its height, hot wars in Indochina, Africa and the Middle East, brutal military juntas all over South America and Meso-America; not to mention Indonesia and the slaughter there, horrendous water pollution, acid rain, smog and worst of all, Disco! No. I hate computers and refuse to own a smart phone but the 1970's sucked for most of the world, so no going back for me. Now is pretty good even with pandemics and conflicts aplenty still; unless your an Uighur, an Afghan, a Yemeni, an Ethiopian or a Haitian.
No going back.

Behind the big drop in euthanasia for America's dogs and cats
Fido and Fluffy are far more likely to survive a stint at the animal shelter today than 40 years ago. Population control and better practices by shelters and pet owners have improved the lot of dogs and cats.
In the 1970s, animal shelter populations and euthanasia rates hit their peak. Overrun with stray animals, shelters routinely "put to sleep" animals they couldn't make room for, Fricke says. "That is the lowest point anyone can remember, when we were euthanizing some 20 million animals every single year," she says. "They were healthy and adoptable animals that no one wanted and no one had homes for."
