Hatuey here with another hard hitting question to make some people blush, and others fluff.

Now that President Trump has opened the door to US presidents receiving gifts from terrorism funding states, it is fair to ask the question : Do you support him accepting these gifts?

Come down good people of DP, state yer opinions.

😁

No! This is beyond being NOT okay. What the hell is wrong with Congress that they would allow such a thing?

However - "IF" this was acceptable and truly a gift to the US government then it should remain the property of the US and not be deferred to Trump in any way shape or form, including his library.

Well, Bitter Pill isn't hear to stick up for this wonderful gift, so I'll play.

I like that its going to be donated to the Trump Library. This will enable Trump to fly books all over the country to kids who live too far from actual libraries to get them.

It'S nOt a GiFt!

"BUH BUH BUH IT WAS FREE! NOBODY TURNS DOWN A FREE GIFT! YOU JUST TAKE IT AND SAY THANK YOU!"

So says Dear Leader.
Won't be so free when we see the cost of refurbishing it so it is acceptable from a security and communications perspective.

"I'm a Big Boy! I got a Big Boy Jet! I'm gonna have my Big Boy Jet do a flyover at my Big Boy Birthday Parade next month!

HOORAY ME!"

Trump himself said that Qatar is a high level supporter of terrorism. They're an ally of Iran, and sheltered Hamas leadership.

This is outrageous, but entirely on brand.

Yup. That's going to be extremely expensive and may not even be completed before he leaves office.

I'm still not clear what purpose a jumbo jet serves at a presidential library.

The Trump administration wants to accept a gifted Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet from the royal family of Qatar and use it as the new Air Force One. With an estimated value of US$400 million, this would be the most valuable gift ever extended to the United States from a foreign government. Although the gift will be transferred at first to the Department of Defense and subsequently to the Trump presidential library foundation, it could be still in violation of the Emoluments Clause.

Presidents in general, no because it's a very bad idea

Trump, yes because it's a very bad idea

Well, they were the bad guys until they realized they could get money from them.

it goes to his Library. I think Regan has one - but it might be a knock off
The Air Force One at the Regan National Library is real, it was decommissioned in 2005. The difference is the plane belongs to the US government and is on loan to the museum. In this case it's the other way around, the jet is being given to Trump and on loan to the US Department of Defense until he leaves office. . There are only two types of things in a Precedential library items on loan from the government and personal property of the President. Nobody can stop him from using it once he leaves office.

The thing that is the most egregious in all of this is the American tax payer is going to be on the hook to pay hundreds of millions to strip it down, ensure it is clean of any devices and then refurbish for security and communications. All this for maybe a year or two of use and then it's basically his. There is no way of slicing this that makes it a good thing.

first off Boeing has a contract but hasn't furnished a plane.
Boeing has been working toward renovating two 747 jets into next-generation Air Force One aircraft, but the process has been wracked by delays. The planes had been scheduled to be delivered by 2022 and now aren't expected until at least 2027
also the Qatar plane goes to DoD - not Trump. it would be "available for use by Trump " but never given to Trump. Trump never has ownership. He gets to use it in official capacity
PS thanks for the info on Regan

It is unfortunate that Boeing is late with the contract , although my understanding is it has to do with chaining security requirements, but unless the existing Air Force one is unsafe like any other President he'll just have to use the existing one until it's ready or refurbish one already in the governments possession.

I don't think that is so but lets say it is. Who ,or how, does ownership of a perfectly operable multi million dollar Air Force One get transferred to his library? Who has the authority to give away government property worth hundreds on millions? I think we both know who calls that shot.

In the case of Reagan it was a decommissioned AF1 and it is on loan. Perfectly good aircraft don't just get decommissioned. If Trump wants an Air Force One in his library why cant he just wait for the one he used last term and so far this term to be decommissioned on delivery of the new AF1 and have that in his library. Again I think we both know the answer. He wants an opulent Air Force One and he wants it now and then he wants to keep it for his personal use..... all at the tax payers expense.

If DOGE really was about abuse waste and fraud they would be all over this!!
