Do you live in a slave state? I'm asking because I live in the free state of flori-duh.

Condolences on living in MAGAt Land. A shame, what has become of my native state of FL.

Glad we decided to make our home in VA, where the state motto is “Sic Semper Tyrannis," meaning "Thus always to tyrants”.

IMO, better in every way, except taxes, than FL.
Slogans no longer mean anything to me but a bunch of sayings we don't follow.

I meant you specifically when I said we.
DH and I are having a very serious discussion about our plans for this winter. We are not in agreement at all, quite unusual for us. I do not want to go back to the States for reasons I know I don't need to explain. My DH has a different perspective. We lived in a lovely area, on a golf course and have many friend there. My husband is more of a golfer than I am and belonged to several leagues and we belonged to the couples league. Lots of good times and good laughs. He really, really loves the neighbourhood, our friends and his golf. His point is that he refuses to allow an a$$hole like Trump dictate our life's choices and infringe on our lifestyle. I am not there in my head but he does have a very good point. The thought of putting one dime into a country that allows that man to do the harm he is doing is anathema to me. We need to come to a decision soon so we'll see how things go over this next month or so.

I feel the same way but in reality, you are only affecting yourselves, trump doesn't even know you and could care less about you. We thought about moving but screw trump and DeSantis, I'll stay here and voice my opinions of the gop any time I wish.

My husbands point exactly but I am also finding out that many of our friends aren't returning which will change the dynamic.....

Sounds like your TDS is infecting your brain. Your husband seems much more level headed.

If florida is a free state, I'll remain happy in my beautiful slave state where many rightwing nutters are still in their shells. Florida and texas are two shitholes I'd never want to live in. Hope you enjoyed your road trip. ☮️

Speaking of CO (small hijack here) do you want Bennet or Weiser for governor? I'm really torn.

Slogans no longer mean anything to me but a bunch of sayings we don't follow.

I tend to agree, but I'm a little surprised to hear you say this after your reaction to "free state of Florida".

Just got back from a road trip ......

Just got back from a road trip to pa and jersey. Up and back on I-95. All of the states we went through had welcome to and thanks for visiting signs, except republican controlled flori-duh with our alligator Alcatraz. Our welcome sign reads Welcome to the free state of flori-duh. Ron DeSantis governor.
I get it! It must be truly delightful to live in a “welfare state” that leans on the generosity of others for all the perks, only to turn around—like an ungrateful teenager—and rant about the “liberal elite” and their allegedly outlandish ideas. But really, why get upset? Let’s have a laugh instead and size up the facts: let’s compare a so-called “welfare state” like Florida to a supposedly “wacky liberal” state like California…
GDP Comparison (2024):

State

Nominal GDP

Real GDP

% of U.S. GDP

California

$4.10T

$3.4T

14.1%

Florida

$1.71T

$1.3T

5.9%

California: Residents and businesses coughed up about $692 billion in federal taxes in 2022, proudly earning “donor state” status—not just paying more into the federal pot than it gets back, but leading all 50 states by a country mile.

On a per capita basis, Californians handed over $2,129 more per person in taxes than they received in services and spending.
Florida: The Sunshine State pitched in 6.7% of all federal revenue—a respectable sum, but dwarfed by California, reflecting its smaller size and lower per capita income. In 2024, Florida’s federal contribution is estimated at around $330–$335 billion.

While California has very little say in who actually gets elected or how the country is run, it still manages to contribute the lion’s share of the nation’s wealth. The ultimate irony? Most blue states boast the biggest GDPs and pump the most cash into the country’s coffers, while the MAGA contingent and their Republican allies—like the family’s ungrateful crackhead children—can’t stop belittling the breadwinner who keeps the lights on.
So, by all means, keep waving those “free state” banners. Just don’t forget to keep reaching out for the goodies the blue states provide. Otherwise, most so-called “red states” would be about as “free and prosperous” as Mogadishu.

Now I hope you get it too!

I really haven't thought about it very much, but I think I would lean towards Weiser, he's very experienced and more assertive than Bennet, IMO. With trump in charge, I think he'll be better for the state. But, I need to weigh the pros and cons of each, which I will do before I cast my vote.

So I personally want to extend our governor's feelings to the rest of America, stop living in slave states and move to the free state of flori-duh.

I have really come to despise the gop for inflicting W and trump on America.

And despise does not mean hate no matter how many times gop folks try to say it is.
I just bought a house in Florida. I cant wait to get down there and cancel out your vote lol

Some people live ethical lives. Ethics are not infections. They're normal human thoughts, feelings and behaviors. People without ethics are on the psychopathic side.
So, her husband is not ethical?

The last visit I had to Florida was my last drunk.

In ten days went through enough coke to change the outcome of the Gulf War, $700 in booze, and I have no idea how much pot.

Spent the last three days cooped up in a low rent beach motel snorting my brains out contemplating suicide.

The only other trip was a camping trip over Christmas in a cheap tent where we froze every night.

Where I was the people hated Canadians. I mean HATE.

California has been the GDP leader for nearly 60 years. Its not like it is successful because the left controls it. It is successful in spite of that. And it is leftist like you who want to transfer wealth from the rich to poor, yet somehow you object to rich states supporting poor states. Sorry but its a bit hard to look beyond that level of hypocrisy.

Sounds like your TDS is infecting your brain. Your husband seems much more level headed.
No we just have different perspectives. In fact he despises Trump more than I do.

Yeah lucky, over a hundred days a year of over ninety degrees and sky high humidity in the summer. Move on down and get you some of these outrageous home insurance rates for yourself, you'll love it here.
Not just home insurance, but also home prices. Then there's the crowding. Dont forget outrageous HOAs either. And Florida doesn't even have legalized pot. That's just unforgivable.

I was born, and grew up, in the slave state of Maryland, which had slavery for 200 years until just after the civil war.
Now I live in Pennsylvania.

On March 1, 1780, Pennsylvania passed “An Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery,” which stopped the importation of slaves into the State, required all slaves to be registered, and established that all children born in the State were free regardless of race or parentage.

That is intended as a slap in the face to people who chose to wear a mask when COVID was raging. Come to flori-duh where you don't have to wear a mask if you don't want, as if that is any different than any other state. Many republicans died from covid because they listened to trump and the gop as they basically told folks, do what you want during COVID, who cares about your fellow Americans? That whole saying is nothing but political propaganda and no other state did it.

Oh, this is about masks? LOL.

Eat your heart out, Florida.
