Comparison of getting a new passport in Austria vs. the US:

Austria:

76€ (4-5 work days until delivery to your address)
100€ (2-3 work days)
220€ (delivery the day after application)

USA:

165$ (4-6 weeks, regular delivery)
225$ (2-3 weeks, expedited delivery)

😳

I live and work in Saudi Arabia, travel several times annually so a passport is necessary.

In fact my new passport is in the works as my previous passport has no empty visa pages even though it's only 5 years old.
When I traveled to London and Dublin 10 or so years ago they didn't stamp mine. I was disappointed. Got two stamps this most recent trip though.

London now offers Egates as do many other countries, including Mexico.

It's convenient as no stamp in passport taking up 1/2 page.

I wish the US would use Egates, so much more efficient. I try to avoid transit thru the US because of the long lines at immigration. That and the US TSA agents barking at everyone in orrder to go back thru security for a connecting flight. You add in the collecting luggage at Port of entry US and dropping off your bag for connecting flight, it's an arse pain I try to avoid US transit to other countries and yes I have a US passport.

We had a brief layover in Seattle after returning home from Iceland last month. Having to collect already checked bags and go through customs was a PITA, but after they separated US passports from the others the line went pretty quick. They didn't even check our passports, just used facial recognition and sent us to our connecting flight.

I kind of wanted stamps since I didn't travel overseas for the first time until 2014 and thought they'd serve as mementos. We did get a single stamp for the three Scandinavian nations we were in, and one for Iceland.

Is it more expensive to renew after it has expired?
I let it lapse once before, but not very long. Can't recall if it was more expensive or not, TBH... Also have dual citizenship in another country

I recall all the foreign nationals in the que for the stamps at Amsrerdam Airport on departure. I used the Egates and did not look back lol

Yes! 30 countries visited so far (28-30 depending on how you count). I'd eventually like to visit all of them that are safe to visit, but that probably will never happen.

Global entry makes getting in the US a breeze.
Literally no lines, just walk up and hold still for a camera for a second, and you’re in.

Now if they could get the bags out faster…

Global entry requires registering

Other countries it's egates and facial recognition

The US so far behind other countries in that regard, even Mexico use the above.

All I've seen is an attempt to justify the bigotry that was boldly proclaimed.
It's past time for me to take you to school so pay attention plse thx.

This is despite it being well known MagaMericans don't care what anyone says. They just keep hit and run posting the SOS anyway -- nonstop since 2015 in fact. And as we see in the here and now about Australia. Magas do Maga and that's all there is to that.

Here's what I've known about Australia for decades and decades:

Australians who vote for one of the two conservative political parties that govern in coalition are very pro American. I've known this since I was a polysci major at uni in the USA five decades ago. Conservative Australians at the bilingual school in Bangkok were always open to American teachers and staff and engaged with us in friendly conversations and interactions as their norm. They and we got along famously.

Australians who voted for the ALP or the Australian Labour Party are the America haters. The Australians who are leftists were Cold War symps and fellow travelers with the USSR and the CCP-PRC. These ALP leftists comprised the great majority of Aussie teachers at the bilingual school in Bangkok where I was lead foreign teacher of the secondary department. These Australian leftists who hated the United States were loud about it, they were constant with it and they were shamelessly brash and deliberately offensive toward we Americans on the faculty. They were delighted to no end they actually had Americans physically right there in front of 'em for the first time in their lives to vent themselves to our face.

So and indeed my posts have never condemned all of Australia or all Australians on any basis or POV. But of course MagaMericans being MagaMericans the facts, truth, honesty and one's personal experience make no difference to 'em. MagaMericans post as they are required to post which is to ignore facts, distort, deflect, deceive and disregard.

Let me tell you without shame or regret how an America hating Labour government in Canberra was purged from government by the CIA and British MI6 operating clandestinely and together.

By 1974 the Labour party radical left Prime Minister Geoff Whitlam had pulled Ozzie troops out of the Vietnam War who had been there from the start. The Marxist Whitlam made a pilgrimage to Hanoi to meet personally with his BFF Ho Chi Minh. The America hating Whitlam spoke of closing the USAF listening station in Alice Springs in central Australia that was opened in the mid 1950s and that could read the temperature of Mao's morning tea.

Suddenly the parliament rejected Whitlam's budget as minor party parliamentarians joined with the Conservative opposition to kill the sucker dead right there on the floor of parliament. Whitlam the Marxist refused to resign and call a new election which is the norm when a government cannot produce a budget. This is when the Governor General of Australia comes in.

The GG of a British Commonwealth country is the personal representative of the sovereign reigning monarch of the UK appointed by the Queen/King to have the final say of government in the country. It's as if HM The Queen were standing right there Herself. In the face of Whitlam being unable to govern and refusing to resign for a new election, the Oz GG took to the steps of the parliament to read a Royal Command that the (commie) Whitlam government is dismissed immediately and a new election is called. The GG concluded with "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!"

End of.

The whole of it was excellent work by the CIA and British MI6 btw. Working together brilliantly. And so effectively.

Several weeks later the conservative two party coalition was elected to government in a popular landslide vote. Australians had heard their Queen. Two years after this and after Whitlam had led the ALP to the smashing defeat the leftist Marxist was dead and buried. I have said nothing against Australia per se and Australians in Oz in my posts -- yet this matters not to the MagaMerican Cultists who have their own agenda for the massively chronic liar and cheat, the dictator Donald Trump.

A lengthy outburst.

You earlier said: I met and worked with too many Australians to want to go to their place down there where they actually live. All but a few of the Australians were total asshats or in certain instances psychos.

That's yet another thingy about the USA passport.

It's valid for 10 years while the vast majority of governments issue a passport for 5 years.

Immigration officers around the world complain to the DepState and Congress that our passport photo of 6 or 8 years ago may not look much like our mug as it is those several years later.

I think this is a minor beef but then again I don't sit there each day looking at photos in different passports to process for a living. Indeed, my passport photo of 2008 when I was 64 didn't look too much like me in 2018 when I was 74.

Plus the USA passport has only 20 pages on its issue whereas other nation's passports can look like a brief history of the world pocket book. As I remember, the Canada passport looks like they knocked down a whole tree to make it. Or produced by Tolstoy Ltd. For only 5 years yet. I hadn't known ha Canadians were such globalists. :giggle:

Yes or no question. If you are not an American citizen please say so in the comments after answering.
It sounds like you're saying that if a U.S. citizen doesn't have a passport, then they aren't an American citizen. 49% of U.S. citizens do not have a passport.
