Most likely, at least in my opinion, those opinions came from friends, family, pop culture, and things like that and less so much their english class or history class or science class. To answer your follow up question I attended a school from kindergarten till the 5th grade which was an anglican private school but I was not necessarily raised with religion and after moving to the US and attending school here it's been absent. As for the schools here that I have attended no I have not studied theology at any of them. I took a humanities course in high school which talked about some of the world religions and such but I would say that that is the extent of my knowledge to be honest.
Straying from what? Reality?
No thanks. I'm not scared of the real world as you seem to be, and I don't celebrate ignorance and fear as you do.
Anti-intellectualism like yours is the reason America is lagging miles behind most of the rest of the developed world by practically every metric that has anything to do with quality of life, from health to violence to education.
I encourage you to study religion and practice one if you choose. The lessons and guidance will definitely enhance your life and help you through it's little [and big] bumps and give you a greater understanding of the world around you.
So you consider my faith as backwards, anti-intellectualism? That's the sort of attitude we're discussing here and why Liberalism has failed every where it's been tried. [including our education system]
You can keep your intellectualism or whatever. Hope it serves you well.
I consider your insistence on forcing it onto children despite its direct contradiction to known reality to be backwards. It has nothing to do with the religion itself. I feel the same way about your promotion of homeopathy, which has nothing to do with religion, but which kills people every year, many of them children.
First of all, I am not a liberal. Second of all, progressive thought of one kind or another (both liberal and not) is the only reason you're still alive despite yourself. It is progressive thought that implemented the infrastructure you're using to access the internet, the access to schooling that guaranteed you'd learn to read, and the human habitation standards that render your environment so clean that you can afford to claim your lack of infection comes from woo, rather than decades of progressive fighting for human health and environmental protection.
People who think like you might have continued to blame infection on bad humor and let people die in droves, rather than ever bothering to investigate and discover germs. Superstitious nonsense makes the ignorant feel superior while they let people fight and die unnecessarily, and yes, I oppose it with a special vociferousness especially in schools.
Too intellectual to believe in a creator, I see. Sometime in your life when you're looking for something to draw strength from, just think real hard.
Best of luck with that.
I draw strength from myself and the other real human beings in my life. I find real people much more responsive.
But at any rate, I notice you have ignored the meat of the argument yet again, as you have nothing but your superstition and ignorance to defend yourself with.
What happened to make you such a hate filled.person?
Taking the word "mostly" at face value, yes.Do you believe that the school system is ran mostly by liberals?
Most educated people in the world are tolerant of different views, which makes them liberal, IMO. They also focus more on facts and logic, and like to discuss matters and different views. There is a reason that one of the first groups that Hitler went after were the professors and educators. They would catch on and write about "things" and discuss things and not be so easily swayed by dictum.
Now who is on the school board ("the system") is a different question.
Do you believe that the school system is ran mostly by liberals?
What's hate-filled about talking to real people? I don't get it.
Are you commenting on my pointing out that you're not responding to anything I've said? That's not "hate" either. I'm just making sure you don't think you're getting away with all your nonsense distractions.
What happened to make you such an irrational one?
You hate religion with a passion. Just wondering where they came from
Not really. I hate the promotion of anti-reality teaching, because it prevents children from growing up to do the things that have made your life so good, again, despite yourself.
Some of those people who have done all that good work have remained religious. Admittedly, many don't -- gaining knowledge and understanding of the world tends to have that affect.
Where'd it come from? Knowledge of history, and seeing how often dogmatism of all sorts has killed people and constrained humanity from growing.
I think you just hate people who don't pat your head and pretend your superstition is just as valid as reality-based fact.
You think people having immoral sexual or criminal exploits qualifies as a constraint on the growth of humanity? Is that what intellectuals ponder all day?
Because I have faith? Sorry I don't make apologies for that.
I bet those areas where the school system is run by conservatives are dragging the national average down. Imagine where Texas would rank on this table...

My early childhood was in Wales actually, so not here in the US, but from about just before middle school on I went to school here in Florida, a mixture of public and private since kindergarten. Probably half of my education was private and the other half public. Currently I attend a private university in Florida.
I guess my question is what exactly is the forced or coerced liberal education that people seem to assume is in the system?
Oh, like the dozens of paedophiles in the priesthood and the meth-smoking closet cases running megachurches?
Religion hasn't done much for your own. If anything, it tends towards protecting its criminals, because the appearance of godliness is apparently more important than the actuality.
Whether you apologize for your errors or not is irrelevant. You still have no credible evidence for your beliefs, thus we're all free to laugh at them.
My personal faith has nothing i to do with any of that nor am I a member of any church. In fact it does give religion a bad name.
Those are actions of mere men not the Almighty. They will be judged harshly when their time comes.
