Stop sanctioning less developed economies to slow the flow. If you are willing to sanction a less developed economy their people should get automatic asylum if they should become subject to our jurisdiction.
No, that’s not how it works. And in any event I think asylum should be entirely abolished as a reason to immigrate

Only right-wingers prefer to keep repeating historical mistakes. Why should y'all even be taken seriously?

Job 34:30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

I don’t believe we are still paying them to stay home.
What's actually happening is they're getting better jobs, and just not going back to service jobs. I guess we just don't have enough teens to fill the positions. lol

We could really use workers, and the future doesn't look bright if we don't make it easier to get them from other countries. Our birthrate is low, we're running out of people because who's going to have families when we don't pay a living wage.

It is the bigotry and ignorance of the right. There is no free ride.
The old white mans free ride will begin when they retire in Mexico so they can live on their minimal social security. Ironic isn't it?

If it is true according to you the we don't pay a living wage then we must be creating a substandard class of immigrants which of course is harmful to us all and also promotes criminal behavior. Your plan sucks.

The only time we have an immigration problem is when FoxNews needs to make their audience more angry.

The latest I have heard is that it can be a "cost effective" move due to their lower cost of living. Besides, it is usually just right-wingers preferring their bigotry and fascism to Capitalism, every time it comes up; regardless of all the hypocrisy they profess in socialism threads.

170k a month is not a problem?

No, who else will Texas get to paint the house, cut the lawn, and clean houses? (That literally was an idea by ole Rick Perry if you recall.)

Our population growth rate has slowed from about 1% per year in 2000 to about 0.3% today, due to a combination of falling birth rates and falling immigration rates. We need to reverse one or both of those trends if America is to remain competitive.

No, cut off the free ride. A thought beyond the comprehension of the left.

Drafting retired Boomers off the couch and back into the workforce is not an electoral winner. Your side can try it.

I don’t know how anyone could deny that there is an immigration problem.

Our entire immigration system is a hot mess.

My vote is go back to the days of “Ellis Island” type of immigration, crack down on employers utilizing Visas to hire cheap labor, and make the process less complicated…but have much more strict enforcement and penalties for illegal entry.
Agreed completely. The whole thing is a mess. Borders are porous and legal immigration is a huge hassle. Neither “side” is interested in addressing the whole problem - just their preferred part of it. It’s so frustrating.

Were it up to me, I would target a 3.2% annual population growth rate, take that target, subtract out population increases due to birth/death rates, then make up the gap with legal immigration because we need human capital to be competitive with China in this century. Take $30B out of DoD and put it on border control and security. Put a $10B tax hike on the wealthy / corporations and apply it to legal immigration processing, the resulting influx of workers who will benefit the wealthy / corporations. Come up with some kind of amnesty program for those who are here and on the straight and narrow, but in parallel / simultaneously, come down hard on any employer that employs illegal immigrants, and on anyone who overstays a Visa or tries to enter illegally going forward e.g. you try to enter, you’re banned from the country for a decade. I don’t think we can get away with any one of these actions - we need to do them all, and at once.

I can tell you we don't encourage trades here in America, and landscaping, painting, pluming, electricians, nursing, care taking all take skill. A lot of immigrants already have those skills or are willing to learn them.

I have a heck of a time finding plumbers, and I'm now paying about 45 bucks an hour to get them, plus perks. We could really use some trades here.

So, bring them over, they'll make plenty of money and help the economy and I'll get jobs done quicker. :)

This, completely. I think our nation as a whole does not realize the magnitude of the deficit in human capital we have vs. our 21st century competition, and it’s something we have to act on now. We have land and natural resources but need more people—a LOT more people. They may not all look the same, but so long as they share similar values, we can be competitive. If on the other hand we wall ourselves off, a few GOPers will smile today, but their grandchildren will reading books in elementary school about how China saved the world.

Right-wingers simply keep proving, with their ignorance of the law, how much they actually Care about being Legal to express Constitutional Law.

Vote blue not red!
We know you want open borders. It's Okay to admit that!

The rednecks won't buy that!

Illegal immigration is a problem that requires multiple solutions. Yes we should crack down on the scum who hire illegals. We should throw their asses in prison and treat them like we do drug dealers and other criminals who profit from illegal activities. Which is throw them in prison, take away their licenses to do business and make them subject to asset seizure and forfeiture laws. We also need a wall on the border and adaquate security to make sure no one is coming in illegally. We also need to crack down on the scum who make it easy for illegals to get benifits for themselves and or their kids through policies that don't require checks.

1.Crack down on the scum who hire illegals.Treat them no different than we do drug dealers and other criminals who profit from and or use their money for illegal activities.

2. In order to get any ID or driver's license you present a birth certificate( in rare cases a non-availability birth certificate where it has been investigated that the individual was born in the US), green card, or certificate of naturalization and social security card. After that require a state issued ID or driver's license in order to the following-

-enroll yourself into school
-enroll your minor kids into school
-apply for welfare, food stamps, section 8 housing and any other tax payer assistance for yourself and or your children
-get a business license,fishing/hunting permit, building permit, license to practice law, food handlers permit, gun license(in states that require a permit to buy a gun),concealed carry permit(in states that require a license to conceal carry) or any other tax payer funded service
-open a bank account, cash a check, use a credit/debit/pre-paid card, apply for a loan,or wire money.
-rent,borrow,lease or buy property
-rent,borrow,lease or buy a motor vehicle.
-get legal documents for yourself or your children.
-get utilities

3.Mandate E-verify for every employer.

4.Repeal part of the immigration and nationality act of 1965 that allows for the chain migration of relatives other than spouse or minor children. This would virtually eliminate anchor babies.

6.Seeing how many of these people here illegally came her on a visa and let it expire we should also cut off visas to citizens of countries we have the most illegal immigration problems with until those numbers go down.
a wall isn't going to stop 60% and all of your chest pounding won't fix the fact that we have a labor shortage issue.

You can build a 100-foot electrified wall. They'll find a way to get here illegally, probably stuffed in the back of some van or some other way. The best way to deal with illegal immigration is to help countries keep their citizens in their countries. It probably requires both carrots and sticks. Carrots in the form of foreign aid if they behave, and taking it away (the stick) when they don't.
60% fly in on planes or come by the ocean.

Why do we even have a "border problem and are losing money on it"?

Our welfare clause is General and must provide for this contingency. Since we also have a Commerce clause we need to find some ways and some means to generate revenue from public policies.

You say they will make plenty of money but you sure as hell didn't say you would pay the $45 an hour and you said nothing about benefits. Sound to me you're looking at your profit picture and your current employees can go suck wind or take the pay cut.
