Did Buttigieg make a mistake not running for Michigan Senate/Governor?

If he would have tried to run for any office, the immediate characterization would have been “see, Kamala doesn’t stand a chance…look Buttigieg is hedging his bets and jumping ship for XYZ”
Agree with most of your post but why would this be? He would have had to declare for 2024 Senate months before Biden even dropped out, and I don’t think most people would see him trading cabinet for an open Senate seat in a key swing state as a poor reflection on Biden. And even if they did that might be an advantage for him now.

I can see Pete being a contender in 2028.
I cannot. Don’t get me wrong, I like the guy. Unfortunately our nation has some tens of millions of @VySky types who only see his sexual orientation. His experience to date won’t change that. Neither will any experience he might accrue during state level governance.

I think mostly you're right, but in Pete's case he's been a national figure for a while now and he's not seen as his orientation. We'll always have people like the one you're referring to. They're always going to be there.

Comments like this are why “centrist” dems are just maga lite, and it’s why the party is moving away from this type of thinking.

You should probably just start an anti trans podcast or something, I hear that's big with centrists now. Get that anti-trans-republicans-who-vote-for-Democrats-vote.

Despite trying desperately to win over Republicans, it's never worked. Never. All of your maga lite pleas to throw this group or that group under the bus. It hasn't yielded anything but Republican dominance.

The main reason Pete Buttigieg didn't do better in the 2020 primary was...why would he? He was the 38-year-old Mayor of South Bend, Indiana...running against seasoned professionals who already dominated all the primary lanes. Anyone who wanted to vote for an establishment candidate could vote for Joe Biden. Anyone who wanted to do socialism could vote for Bernie Sanders. Anyone who wanted to do weird woke stuff could vote for Elizabeth Warren. There just wasn't any angle for a dark horse with virtually no electoral experience.

Unfortunately for Pete Buttigieg he'll still have the same problem in 2028, despite being eight years older.

You could not tell the difference between this and something every megabot online uses for "political analysis". If we don't run from this type of thinking, we will watch Gavin Newsom condemn us to 4 years of Vance or Don Jr.

You are aware that other Democrats exist besides Pete Buttigieg and Gavin Newsom, right? That there isn't some binary choice between them? That neither of them have even announced their future political plans yet, and probably won't until after the midterms?

It's not about getting national exposure, it's about demonstrating that he can win an election in a competitive state and then govern well.
I think Democrats in general need to show they can govern well at the state and major city level. However, while I think voters should demand some previous governing experience for the presidency, they obviously don't.

I think it is likely Democrats go with an outsider to politics like Mark Cuban in 2028.

Oh, so you mean a thread in which we are discussing Pete Buttigieg he keeps coming up? And I was more responding to the usual snark from centrists about "socialism" and "woke". Your ideology, or lack thereof, is why Dems lost in 2024.

The economy (inflation), immigration, Biden not stepping down at least a year prior to when he did, coronating Kamala with zero votes in a primary, and far left Democrat social views is why democrats lost in 2024.

I have no idea why you brought up Gavin Newsom out of the blue, or where you got the idea that I supported him. TBH, I find candidates like Gavin Newsom to be quite repulsive. But whatever. When you're posting once every 6.8 waking minutes, I'm sure you don't have a lot of time to think about whether your posts make any sense.

Maybe do 139 posts instead of 140 posts today, and spend those extra 6.8 minutes with your son. 🤷‍♂️

He's a top POTUS contender for 2028 because he is whip-smart and hyper-articulate, but his resume is limited to his time as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and Transportation Secretary. Then again, had he decided to run for 2026, then virtually as soon as he took office as Senator or Governor, essentially 100% of his time would need to be spent running for POTUS, which could give rise to criticism and create problems, especially if his vote was regularly needed in a closely split Senate.

Personally, I think he should have run for Senate in 2024, which would have given him the current two-year cycle to be the leading young voice in the Senate before turning to the POTUS cycle in 2026.

Buttigieg is a far left extremist.
He is way out of touch with mainstream Americans.

Because your arguments align with "centrists" who want to throw different dem party constituents under the bus. You've already done it in this thread. If you're not gonna read what you write, why do you want anyone else to?

Wait...
Is Gavin Newsom your vision of what centrist Democrats want? :ROFLMAO:

They have. cities are much better run by and large than republican areas.
The Democrat cities are unfit for middle class people.
They have failed schools, high crime and irresponsible governments.
The far left policies drive the vital tax paying citizens out.

Red states lead the nation in crime and poverty.
