Dick Durbin won’t seek re-election after nearly three decades in US Senate (1 Viewer)

Good to see senior Dems passing the mantle.
He should have retired two or more terms ago.

I do have to give him props for wanting tariffs on China though. At least he once did, until president Trump wanted it.

While I like the idea of being a senator, if I were 80, I'd mostly just want to live my life, write poetry, and spend time with grandkids. Working a full time job at that age would be useless bullshit. Happy retirement.
Yep.

that's why I said he should have retired two terms ago.

That's not true . He still does but thinks 100% plus is a bit much

Probably need to put an age limit on these things, but it's good he's retiring.
I would be against an age limit, but I would not oppose mandatory medical assessments if there are indications of dementia. At that point, if positive, that congress need to consider a means of removal.

Really?

OK. I stand corrected. It must be all the rest of the democrats that were for tariffs until president Trump wanted them.

If anything, you're multidimensional Helix.

That's a great attribute.
Hey, thanks for the compliment. I appreciate it.

I suppose it's up to the person, but **** that for me.
I have a job that gives me a good pay and I actually have a level of job satisfaction that most people never experience. I am still very healthy, and figure I will work for maybe 5 more years before retiring. I would put in my retirement papers today, if I didn't like the job and people I work with.

I cannot imaging liking the people I would have to work with if I was in the senate.

Democrats are for targeted, strategic tariffs and still are. That's hardly what you have now.

Rumor mill says he may be stepping down for Pritzker to run for Senate.
Pritzker will buy the Senate seat just like he did the governorship.

Will Bernie be happy with someone worth $3.7 BILLION in the Senate? Oligarchs of the world unite.

Then why did they never pass them before?

Democrats do lots of talking and have plenty of empty promises they never even try to keep.

I know nothing about him, but I believe in general, the best candidate for president is someone who first served as a governor.

I would suspect the possibility of improving others' lives, and moving the country forward, might eclipse any possible negative interpersonal interactions.

If they actually focused on such things.

I hate what it's come to, but with a Billionaire Oligarchy running the government, it might not be so bad to have an individual of equal means pushing back on them.

If they actually focused on such things.

With only a 2.5M net worth, it might appear Durbin did not focus on self-enrichment.

I personally would relish the opportunity. In fact the most fulfilled I may have been in life (outside of my family), was when I was running a neighborhood voting bloc (in addition to my day career).

I loved it, even while I hated many of the politicos I was forced to deal with. But the results we brought to the neighborhood and my neighbors, friends, and family, gave me perhaps the highest satisfaction of any endeavor in my life. Far more than any successes at my corporate day job.

Biden imposed tariffs
I am not aware of any. Can you fill be in? A search yielded me nothing, but what I alreday knew.

President Biden campaigned to remove president Trump's tariffs, but left them untouched. He did however sympathize with US workers, but instead of raising the tariffs more, he subsidized US industry with our tax dollars.

The good side of having someone who is rich, is they are less likely to play games to gain wealth.

Look at all the people in congress, who's wealth has skyrocketed far more than their salary can possible do.

LOL.

Was that president Biden's idea, or Mr. Autopen's idea? He promised to remove president Trump's tariffs. What a damn hypocrite.

And by the date of it, just before the elections, this was a punt no less.
