He's not going because he thinks the democrats are going to win in the next election.

He's younger than Biden or Bernie; practically a spring chicken in Democrat terms.

He voted for Trump's spending bill......

I can't believe you complain about this.
I get it you hate Trump.
So do i.
But i would expect people on a political forum to understand that it was imperative for the dems to pass it.

Same with this deportation commotion.
Dems need to just STFU if they want to regain power.

You don't have to be on a political forum, to realize the Democrats made a big mistake in voting for Trump's budget and a majority of Democrats agree. I would expect someone who hates Trump to understand that.

Same for his ignoring the courts on Trump's deportation fiasco.
Democrats need to continue be very vocal in their opposition to Trump's refusal to comply with court rulings and grab for power. Opposing oppression is always the right thing to do, even if it delays the Democrat's regaining control of our government...

Your aditude will keep trump in power.

While I like the idea of being a senator, if I were 80, I'd mostly just want to live my life, write poetry, and spend time with grandkids. Working a full time job at that age would be useless bullshit. Happy retirement.

I still think the odds favor a Democratic winner, but Illinois isn't necessarily as safe as some would assume.

Of course just how safe it is or isn't will depend a lot on the popularity of both parties, and I suspect the GOP's popularity will hinge a lot on how voters perceive Trump-47.

Grifted enough money off the American people and now retiring. Good riddance.

In 2016, OpenSecrets estimated Dick Durbin’s net worth to be $1.94 million. Currently, the 2023 financial disclosure form estimates his net worth at $2.51 million.

They’re both older than Trump and don’t wear adult diapers like Trump does, Pretty funny!
Democrats are known for electing particularly, even historically, old representatives.

Hopefully this changes.

In the whole big picture of things that is squat

He is going because Washington is breaking down... its not the public service it use to be. He has a very safe seat, especially in this environment... This is a great time for him, for Illinois and for the Democratic party to step aside.

That isn't very much money... He must be very bad at grifting.... maybe because he actually did his job.

Now do the other 49 Senators.. I suspect that is the norm (and likely the low end at that) and not the exception.

Quick googling showed a reference to 2011 where the AVERAGE net worth of a US senator was 14 million...<shrug>
