DHS ends teleworking, requires employees to work in person (1 Viewer)

You work in the private sector where efficiency and productivity matter. If you don't do your job well you typically don't last long. Working for the government is a different story.

Lol, yeah guys, the government shouldn't be in the business of efficiency and productivity.

It should be in the business of people, crammed into offices, and being told to be in person for form filing duties, and answering hotlines.

DOGE! MAGA!

😄

Drowned out by all the other people doing the same think 6 feet away. And if one person gets the flu, EVERYONE gets the flu.

That's EFFICIENCY!

If only there was technology capable of letting us disperse these folks.

It's good to see a topic that can be discussed so reasonably and rationally, without all the usual partisan tempest.

I have heard of advancements in smoke signal technology that could allow workers to light backyard fires, and notify each other of what they are doing. Like a net in the sky, but we cannot call it that. It would be a skynet of smoke signal notifications all around America.

I am young, and hip, and in tune to new stuff.

😁

I've worked from home for nearly 7 years now.

I do my job just fine and this is the experience for the vast majority of people in this situation. This return to work policy is just to sooth the sour grapes of people who are not fortunate enough to be in that situation.
Wonderful for you. No sour grapes on my part. They have an office, use it.

lolol

This place is nothing more than a shit show.

Anyone thoughtful enough to write out an articulate and reasonable post is simply ignored.

did not say that.
There is a time and place for telecommuting (full and part time)
A lot deals with what is the persons job, does the person have adequate communication from home, is there required check ins and validation of work, etc.?

imo, if a worker is working from home they still need to come into the office on a regular basis for their mail, sending out official correspondence, staff meetings that cannot be done by teleconferencing, etc.

Are you saying that a government employee should never work from home?
I am saying there are buildings WE are paying for that they need to be in. Why are government employees any different than any other employees? Others have had to return to work at their workplaces.

My firm is the largest and most successful accounting firm in the world.
Those that can work remote have been well before Covid. Consultants, Auditor, Accountants, and PPMDs don't need to be in the office to make money for the firm. AA's are required to be in the office three days a week
The nature of my work requires me to be in the office as I work in facilities, I can't work from home.
After Covid we downsized and cut two floors saving money on rent which is a major cost for a business.
We save money on office supplies, coffee supplies, and general maintenance.
Working in office as it was a decade ago will never return. This is all just red meat for cranky boomers.
Ahhh….interesting. I have a relative who works in a VERY large firm. They all were required to go back into their offices. Now with that being said, they are allowed to work from home one day a week. But for the purpose of leadership, and continuity they are required to spend four days in their offices.

There is literally no reason for them to beyond sour grapes. The government should sell the buildings if they don't need the infrastructure.

This reminds me of the government worker in Spain who didn't show up for work for years yet was still paid. Governments are full of slugs.
You’re perpetuating the worn out trope that government workers are lazy, On the contrary, most Federal workers are worked like dogs at home or not. I know for a fact that IRS and SS mailroom/ clerical employees are worked like slaves. Micromanaged in high stress toxic environments. Federal workers bust their asses and there to be commended for taking roles that you or I wouldn’t.

Sour grapes? Why because they are being expected to return to their offices? Wow.
Yeah, because of stupid reasoning like "Well other people have to do it, so they should have to do it too" Which is nothing but jealousy.

Starting a thread by marginalizing and demeaning an entire class of people helps with that? You know...lots of federal workers enjoying the benefits of teleworking probably voted for Trump.

The thread started by calling people who work from home lazy but only if they are government employees. If private sector employees do not see what is coming for them too, they are fooling themselves.

Yay MAGA!

😁

And the leopards just ate their face.

I've worked with enough government workers to confidently say horseshit.

Are there exceptions? Of course. Would the majority of government workers survive out in corporate America? Highly doubtful.
