Alarming new polling for the Democratic Party suggests it is losing ground among young voters, a demographic that has traditionally leaned blue.
Brett Cooper, host of "The Brett Cooper Show," says many in her generation feel alienated by a party that no longer reflects their values or energy.
"Democrats are completely out of touch with their voter base," Cooper said on "Fox & Friends." "They are aging out. We do not want them in Congress anymore on the left and the right."
A new poll from the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics shows approval of congressional Democrats among young Americans has dropped to 23%, down from 42% in early 2017. Approval for congressional Republicans stands at 29%, slightly improved from previous years. President Donald Trump’s approval rating among 18-29-year-olds is at 31%, virtually unchanged from the beginning of his first term.

Comment:
It is unusual for the Dems to lose support of young voters.
The colleges pump the students with far-left indoctrination, but when most people hit around 30 years old, they become wiser and leave the far-left ideology behind.
The Republicans are not doing much better with young voters.
There is a civil war between young and old Dem politicians going on inside the Democrat Party.
The young Democrat politicians will win by attrition.
But the younger generation of Dem politicians are even further Left, and that is hard to do.

Yeah, conservatives need to understand that "young people pissed at Democrats" doesn't translate into "young people are turning to support Trump."

They're pissed at Democrats for being too conservative. I know, Trumpers think Democrats are radical leftists, but to people with general awareness of the world and its politics, that's a hilarious belief.

Oh right. Face it. TDS is all the left has and even that is losing it's appeal because it's pointless and self-demoralizing. The party of compassion and love so focused on hate & destruction.

This is the 3rd thread this week by a Trump supporter wondering about the "drop" in "Dem" support.

I'll just reshare this... (Understanding the perspectives of Not A Trump Fan is complicated.)

Young people giving up on the Dens doesn't mean they are joining the GOP, just that they have had it with both parties.

In the other thread on the topic I pointed out this sentiment, since it's proven out in the polling data:

Fox News article said:
According to Harvard's annual spring survey, which was conducted March 14-25 and released on Wednesday, the approval rating for congressional Democrats stands at 23%, down from 42% in the spring of 2017 at the start of Trump's first term. In that same period, approval of Congressional Republicans has held steady, inching up slightly from 28% to 29%," the poll's release notes.

One would expect an ideological shift to be better represented in polling numbers, but this story is more about the loss of young voters among Democrats than it is a switch of young voters from one party to the other. Then, of course, there's the "change agent" aspect of the 2024 election as well, and clearly people did not want to re-elect a Democrat who didn't differentiate herself much from the former president.

Nonsense. Canada has conservatives. Canada has liberals. Canada has libertarians. Etc.

Here's a summary of the the conservative candidate on abortion & gay rights:
...Pierre Poilievre said that a Conservative government would not “support any legislation to regulate abortion... Conservative Alberta MP expressed his views on abortion and gay marriage, which he told Erskine-Smith he would vote against if given the opportunity...

Millennials (i.e., 30-and 40-somethings) are more liberal than Gen Z. We'll see if the youngins have to re-learn the lessons that George Dubya and Trump I taught their elders.

Pretty much everyone in their 20s I know sees dems as hypocritical corporate stooges and unwilling to support progressivism while giving it lip service. Who appears to be happening is a rejection of 80s to 2010s neoliberal policies of presidents from Reagan to Obama.

Divide and conquer. Democrats are dividing themselves, making it easier for Republicans to conquer them.

The Dems are anything but far left, heck outside of Bernie Sanders the entire Democratic Party is more right than the Conservative Party of Canada.

It lies further right than all but the ultra nationalist parties in Europe.

your far left prospective has distorted your view

And Donnie is doing no better.

Trump has lost the most ground with young people

According to a new poll published by the Pew Research Center on April 23, 2025, only 36% of adults between the ages of 18-29 approve of the job Trump is doing as president today, vs 63% who disapprove.

You have to be a corporate stooge in order to raise enough money to win elections. Furthermore progressive policies are the main reason the party is currently in the shitter.
