Democrats win supermajority in Oregon House, Senate

Oregon Democrats appear to have eked out a supermajority in both the state House and Senate, with a narrow win confirmed in a rural Woodburn-based House seat late Tuesday.

Tuesday was the deadline for voters to fix missing or mismatched signatures on their ballot envelopes. Campaign staff and volunteers for Rep. Tracy Cramer, R-Gervais, and Democratic challenger Lesly Muñoz have spent days tracking down voters to make sure their ballots were counted in the closest race for an Oregon House seat.

Muñoz, a labor organizer from Woodburn, appears to have prevailed by just 161 votes out of more than 20,800 cast in the 22nd House District in northern Marion County. Her victory doesn’t just mean Democrats regain the seat they lost two years ago — it gives House Democrats the three-fifths majority needed to increase taxes or pass new taxes without Republican support. That’s especially notable heading into the 2025 session, as lawmakers work to craft a multi-billion-dollar transportation funding package.

Muñoz described her victory as a win for farmworkers in a statement issued by the farmworkers’ union Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste, which supported her campaign with bilingual calls and canvasses. The district is the only majority-minority Oregon House district, and nearly 48% of its residents are Hispanic.

WOW!!!! You mean a state with 99% liberal loons voted in liberal loons???????

SHOCKING!!!!!!!

Did you miss the phrase "super majority"?

Seems you're a bad loser as well as a bad winner.

This makes me happy. It means that the Republican yahoos who walk out every year when they don't get their way and literally stop state government in its tracks have no power. We had to pass a law to make those who walk out ineligible to run again because it got so bad. Last year several walked out and couldn't run this year. They were shocked when their lawsuits went nowhere because the law was perfectly clear. Buh bye assholes 👋

Not too surprising when one considers Oregon has a PVI of D+6. Which simply means Oregon is 6 points higher for the democrats or more democratic than the rest of the nation. Oregon is a solid democratic state just like the rest of the west coast. California D+14 and Washington D+8. The whole west coast is far to the left of the rest of the nation.

Loser??
Haha - you guys can have Oregon.

And California. And a bunch of other states.

Let's be clear that Trump does not care about states rights. (Or state powers, more correctly.) He will do everything he can to restrict abortion rights, restrict drug rights, and even restrict rights of individuals to travel between states. He thinks he's the boss of everything, and right up to the day the Senate boots him out, he will be the most horrific federal tyrant you can imagine.

Enjoy your "winning" because it will be brief.

The lead story is that Democrats have won a SUPERMAJORITY in Oregon. That's 60% not 50%

It's a whole lot better than D+6

I could look at the numbers, or I could just guess: Libertarians screwed the Republicans with their pants on.

It still doesn't surprise me about the super majority. Oregon is a deep, solid democratic state. Oregon has gone for the democrats in 10 straight presidential elections. The last time Oregon vote republican was in 1984 when Reagan won 49 states.

Great news. Now Oregon can pass a bunch of progressive legislation without the right-wing nut****s walking out on them.

Oh, no!!

People voted for who they wanted.
What utter bastards!

I plan on retiring this year. One of the main reasons is that the anti small business stranglehold the radical left has on the state makes it too difficult to own a small business.

I feel sorry for the residents of Portland. That used to be such a beautiful city.

Democrats... "supermajority" in Oregon... and we are surprised exactly why?

In other shocking news, California stayed Democratic, pretty much top to bottom.

I wouldn't mind if OR decided to secede and join Canada.
They really would fit in with Trudeau up there.

Sorry to burst lib bubbles...Trump and his fasho clown brigade are still gonna interfere with good policy in Oregon...

Oh dear

I work in Oregon but live right across the river in Idaho. Curious if and how this will affect me.

How dare Oregon vote for people who won't bow down to Trump's magnificent rulership!

How hard is it to kick a place out of the Union?

They banned voter ID, so this outcome is expected.

Bye Oregon, it was nice knowing you.

Explaining why eastern Oregon wants to secede and become part of Idaho.

California morons who wanted to escape the idiocy of their own state voted the same idiocy in in Oregon.
