Wow! Democrats want to restore the temporary subsidies for healthcare under ACA put into place during Covid. Democrats want to subsidize people who make more than 3X the average US yearly income. Data from early 2024 showed that 93% of the nearly 21 million marketplace enrollees received premium subsidies. The average middle class household income is $60,000. Who are democrats trying to help?
Democrat Senator Jeanne Shaheen who represents New Hampshire says the majority of subsidies goes to people earning less than $200,000 a year. The benchmark of $200,000 marks the amount earned by the top 15% of households in America.
When put into place during the Covid Pandemic, the temporary enhancements removed the previous qualifying mark of 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL of $32,150) for a family of four, cap for subsidies. The new rules capped premium costs at 8.5% of household income for benchmark plans. This allowed subsidies for higher earners: While the enhancements opened up subsidies to higher-income individuals, the amount of the subsidy is determined by a sliding scale based on income. Higher earners receive a subsidy if the benchmark plan costs more than 8.5% of their income.
To be in the top 10% of household income in the U.S. in 2025, a household needs an annual income of approximately $234,769 to $250,000, though some estimates are slightly lower at around $150,000. The top 20% of households in the U.S. earn $169,000 or above. The top 25% earn $120.000 and above. The exact figure depends on the source and the specific data year, based on the US Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2025, 41.9% of households earn over $100,000.
In addition despite the claims of democrats this funding would also go to illegal immigrants through the current law that requires hospital emergency rooms to treat any person who presents themselves for care at the emergency room. That person must be stabilized before being dismissed. Hospitals are allowed to bill costs of this care to the federal government. In addition many states allow illegal immigrants to assess state medicaid which is funded by matching funds through the federal medicaid program.

So who should qualify for these subsidies and how much income should a family be allowed to qualify for the subsidies? Without the increase of people in higher income brackets and illegals who in many cases are allowed to access ACA through state medicaid and hospital emergency care the additional subsidies would not be needed to fund the program. This is a case of democrats continued practice of bloated spending for a program poorly managed.

The new survey found 59% of Republicans and 57% of “Make American Great Again” supporters favor extending the enhanced subsidies.
Three in four adults (77%) say Congress should extend the enhanced tax credits for people who buy their own insurance through the ACA Marketplace, while about one in five (22%) say Congress should let them expire. While there are some partisan differences, majorities of Democrats (91%), independents (80%), and Republicans (63%) say the enhanced tax credits should be extended by Congress.

If the GOP "wins," families at every income level will pay more.

Higher earners receive a subsidy if the benchmark plan costs more than 8.5% of their income.

In other words, high earners generally don't get a subsidy.

That's exactly what the parties should have been working out these last few months but the GOP refused any discussion. Heck MTG just said that the GOP leadership never once told any of them what the repercussions might be or even brought up the expiration of the subsidies to their own members. BTW TX, GA, FL and SC are states expected to be hit hardest...maybe that's why MTG finally woke up

And of course Johnson now has the House on vacation indefinitely.

What Democrats really want - and in fact a very strong majority of the country wants - is single payer health care.

But for some reason, MAGAs think that insisting that we keep letting health insurers skim a shitload off the top (and middle and bottom) of healthcare makes them Big Tough Patriots.

So the best Democrats can do, until these aforementioned absolute shit-for-brains and piece-of-shit MAGAs deradicalize themselves away from Fox, is try to use Obamacare to patch over all the holes and depredations created and perpetrated by health insurers. If you put aside your partisan programming and actually thought for a second, you'd realize that the fact that people who make what sounds like a lot of money still need help affording health insurance should be a massive wake up call about the need to get rid of health insurers entirely. We can do this all cheaper with single-payer.

See, I shouldn't even say Democrats. I should say non-MAGAs. Because it really is something like 65-70% of Americans that want single payer health care. People who aren't evil, see...... see they don't think you should die of preventable conditions just because you couldn't buy health insurance and couldn't afford out of pocket costs for care.

Whereas MAGAs? I guess it makes them feel tough to say "let 'em die".

The democrats want to extend the temporary Covid era ACA subsidy.

Calling them "enhanced tax credits" doesn't quit ring true.

Who get's the 350 billion dollars if the democrats get their way?

Wouldn't it be the insurance companies.

Does it really matter what they call it . It's a subsidy to help make heathcare affordable. What price do you think Medicare B and supplementals would be without taxpayer subsidies?

Oh well, I thought you might "get" what Americans, of all political persuasions, want, but maybe my posting those details escaped you. YOUR VIEWS COUNT, theirs don't.

Love your complaining about illegals getting “hospital emergency care.” Obviously, when they fall off the roof they were working on or get run over by a tractor in the fields, there employers should call ICE to have them deported.

Hint what democrats really want is something like what all other developed democracies have, healthcare for all. Simply put, this means extending the national healthcare we already have for 35% or so, not including I believe those government employees who get benefits.

What do Trumpers suggest doctors do with people who present at the emergency room with critical injuries. Will someone on the right be brave enough to answer?

That's like describing telehealth as a "COVID era Medicare benefit."

No.

It's factual.

It's correct.

Calling them enhanced tax credits is meant to mislead the public.

This could become a government-funded goldmine for insurance companies if they are renewed.

How gets the money?

The insurance companies.

But then similar surveys told you Kamala Harris was going to win the 2024 election.

Referring to them as enhanced tax credits is intentionally misleading the public, as that’s not an accurate description.

They are a Covid era subsidy.

That's what they were then. If they are renewed it will be for a different reason. Inflation and affordability.

To put it bluntly, democrats have come to the conclusion that the ACA failed to make health insurance affordable, are painfully aware that the rates are going up significantly, and they want to be rescued by increased subsidies.

Counting on the idea that people like having health insurance.
