Sadly, that is the fallacy that many southerners hold. "Housing in southern states was so cheap that Republicans started moving south to make more money." I have heard it from people here and from people in videos.

I know history. I teach it. You think because a party had a certain platform half a century ago it must have that same platform today. Politics (and reality) don't work that way. The Southern Strategy is well-known and documented. If you refuse to accept reality, well that's on you.

The basis of the entire argument falls apart when you realize it was only TWO, and one of them joined before Nixon's time.

If you're teaching the Souther Strategy as factual, you should not teach anything, especially history.

It's not dem vs repub, it's liberals versus conservatives.

Liberal dems and and liberal moderate repubs supported the civil rights act.

During that era, I was a liberal republican. The GOP party has long since abandoned their platform of 1956.

There are very few liberal or moderate repubs in the GOP today, they've either switched to independent, libertarian, or conservative dem.

Conservative dems ( dixiecrats ) and conservative repubs, opposed the bill.

Dems introduced the Civil Rights Act, and got it passed. The repubs of that era who supported the CVA were moderate and liberal, and their remnants are manifested today in three PACs who are anti Trump, the Lincoln project, the Staff of Bush 43 against trump, and Republican Voters Against Trump. None of them today would be in the GOP, it is the John Birchers of yesteryear ( ostracized by Buckley) who morphed into the T party, now the freedom caucus, who now control the GOP, the party of Trump. In short, the inmates have taken over the insane asylum.

Yeah, and when Trump was elected, the KKK cheered

I live right near Oakland. Great town. But it too has to deal with gentrification, as do other cities, and the loss of poor service workers who cant afford housing. There is a poster a buddy of mine has about San Francisco showing a brown skinned man, labeled "sighting of the last Mexican in the Mission District." But what does that have to do with blacks switching from republican to primarily democrat over the last several decades? As Reagan said about becoming a republican, "I didnt leave the democratic party. It left me." Republican party has left blacks. Reagan kicked off his campaign in 1980 in Mississippi not far from the site of the murder of the three young civil right workers. He spoke of "states rights,' a dog whistle, code for non-aggressive enforcing of federal civil rights laws. He followed through,
