A dumber idea will not be proposed this election season:
Democratic lawmakers called again this week to expand the Supreme Court, specifically to add four seats to the bench.

Sen. Edward J. Markey, Massachusetts Democrat, and Rep. Hank Johnson, Georgia Democrat, stood outside the Supreme Court on Thursday and urged Congress to pass legislation that would expand the court. Their bill has been pending before lawmakers for more than a year without action.

Does anyone think this will not begin an escalation war with each party packing the court in turn each time it gains control of Congress and the White House?

By the close of the century we’ll have more Justices than Senators.

That's the idea! After both sides have degraded American institutions to the point they are no longer recognizable, then comes the authoritarian takeover! Aren't you excited!

It is a remarkably bad idea to pack the Supreme Court expecting good things, the entire legislative branch has been over politicized and going to 13 or more Supreme Court Justices is simply begging for things to get worse.

So now that the conservatives have the supreme court stacked the way they like, shit shouldn't change. The Republicans in Wisconsin want to take away spending from their Democratic governor and they control it. Where are folks like you to complain about these kinds of actions to nullify a Democrats power?

It’s not the beginning of the war. Refusing to hold hearings for Garland was the first shot. If this happens, this is just Democrats firing back.

Elections have consequences.

"push"???

This isn't a push. It's political posturing.

Unless the Dems get control of the legislature and the presidency, this will always be DOA.

Well, clearly something's got to be done. The Supreme Court has discarded the Constitution and Supreme Court precedent and has become a political arm of the religious and MAGA Republicans. Blatantly.

Changes to the current court are clearly needed.
I would like to see Congress retake their Constitutional granted powers over the make up and standards of the court.
An enforceable ethics standard for justices.
Term limits for justices.
Increasing the number of Justices, 13 is a good number since there are 13 federal appellate courts.

What he got was slandered.

At least you abandoned the bullshit about Bork being anything other than the Senate voting down a nominee.

I think the first time that happened was in 1795.

Robert Bork would differ on who fired the first shot.

The pseudo-intellectual dishonesty is astounding.

The process was followed with Bork. You know perfectly well that failing at the full vote stage is not justification for simply refusing to engage in the process.

Typical

And they stood for reelection just a few months later. How'd that work out?

How about wait until we see exactly what Biden proposes (I believe he's doing that tomorrow). This can be done in a non-partisan way.

This is nothing new. In 2007, political scientist professor at UVA, Larry Sabato, recommended the court be expanded from 9 to 12 to be more representative.

It is an incredibly stupid idea and it would escalate. It would basically be one political party attempting to give congress control of the Judidical branch, which is a separate but equal branch of government. Fortunately unless the democrats at some point gain a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, it will never happen.
