Two Democratic lawmakers introduced legislation Tuesday that would prevent President Trump from launching a nuclear weapon without a obtaining a congressional declaration of war.
Foreign Policy reported that the bill was introduced by Sen. Edward Markey, D-Mass., and Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif. The article notes that Lieu has a paper sign outside his office that reads, “Alternative Fact Free Zone.”
Under current law, the U.S. president can order a first-use nuclear strike even if the U.S. is not under nuclear attack.

No doubt the lefties will support this, they're a lockstep party; stragglers will be persecuted. Anyhow, we have at least two Dems that are desperate. This is purely political swaggering, since they know it will never pass.

This is a bad idea, if there is an incident where we need to launch nukes and congress is all dead or can't be convened then that could leave us defenseless.

While this is all political posturing, I'm sure any law like this would have caveats in case of such a disastrous turn of events.

I would say nearly all americans are not concerned, otherwise they would be marching against nukes (or fleeing the country) rather than wearing *****hats. It appears to be pretty low on everyones priority list.

I don't think a cool down period is a bad idea, and we aren't "defenseless because of it". Potentially killing thousands, if not millions of people, should be last resort and carefully considered. We have other options.
Of course no one person makes the decision even now, and getting congressional approval is a bit steep.
 
Democrat whining carries over into a DOA legislation.... they'd be better served spending their time on issues that actually matter to all American's and not just the alt-left dingbats.

So even if we are attacked the demoRATS think we should wait until they come to some decision , who knows months later at the rate they move on issues , before we are allowed to strike . And they wonder why they lost the House , The Senate , and the presidency . :roll:

Actually the president does have authority however based on the situation people do not have to comply with the order.
like right now. trump could order a nuclear strike however that doesn't mean that people have to comply with it.

they could argue that he is mentally deranged and unfit to serve since giving a command like that in which they would probably be correct.

however in a situation where the US was under attack by another country launching a weapon at us then yes he has full authority to strike back.
