Democrats have votes to hold 2 White House officials in contempt

I believe it was Al Gore who coined the phrase "living breathing document"

Wrong. The phrase has been around since the 1700's. If you study Constitutional Law it is evident that the framer's intent was that the Constitution is not a static document. There are those who argue that it should be, but that was not the intent when the Constitution was written.

But as for Gore coining the phrase. Unless Al Gore is over 200 years old....I highly doubt it. ...but then again, you probably believe it when you hear people say that Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet....

Well now you are just full of shiite. Feel free to cite ANY reference to the phrase before Al Gore in the 2000 election, let alone from the framers 200 years ago.

Then why did they make it so extremely difficult to change it?

And we await your quoting of a founding father saying the constitution was a living breathing document that should be changed at the whim of whoever is in power.

There are those who argue that it should be,

Who?

Because he wouldn't pursue election fraud investigations which was an ongoing priority for ALL US Attorney's under Bush, no it was not unethical in the least and no evidence was presented it was.

He was persuing it. He just wasn't rushing it for election purposes. Why wouldn't anyone testify to your claims?

???? Nonsense. US attorneys have immense discretion in directing limited resources to more diligently prosecute certain crimes. If the executive isnt pleased with how they exercise that discretion, they can and should be replaced.

Why didn't Gonzo testify to that?

Testify to what, who made the charges and what evidence did they present to support it. Do you have a website which shows the formal complaints the fired attorneys filed at the time they were fired?

Why should he? No one presented any evidence that required him to testify to anything.

Because saying "I don't know"71 times made him look like an idiot. Why did he resign?

They asked questions and Gonzo got Reaganitis.

I am surprised how fast this thread made it to 100 votes. How did it get there? The usual way, with 2 sides bashing each other, but with all that bashing, there is one point that has been completely overlooked, so let me bring it up again?

What do you think about Sensenbrenner's idea? To me, it looks like something that Republicans and Democrats alike can get on the same page with. However, like this forum, Congress is also divided into 2 camps, and like this forum, no compromise, even a good one like Sensenbrenner's, will be considered. Finally, like this forum, members of Congress will continue to talk past each other instead of getting together and doing the people's business.

I was wondering if any one else noticed that !

As long as the Red-Blue voters stay at each others throats
the REP-DEM monopoly will continue to screw us over !
What will it take to get that simple fact through your thick
skulls ????....

A President that Committed a Felony in Federal Court?
A President that can win an election with less than 51% of the "PEOPLES VOTE"?
A President that can win with fewer votes than his opponent?
Congressmen going to jail for corruption related crimes ?
A >$9Trillion debt?
Sending us to a war based on lies and deceit ?
A semi-Retarded Prez that make the rule up as he goes along?...

Whether you're a REP or DEM you should never excuse
your party from Injustice, Corruption, or Braking the law
just because you hate the other party more !!!!!!!!!

This is why the US political system is so screwed up !
And this is the way it will stay until Americans fight for
the common good of America, and not your corrupt
political party's agenda.

No those asking the question looked like partisan fools and he was fed up with it. It was a bogus witch hunt from the start.

Spoken like an apologist. You are a good bushie.

No spoken like a realist not a partisan hack. I can always tell when you realize you have lost the argument, you start to go on the personal attack. What law was broken, what wrong doing was committed? None. You can show no reason Bush or anyone in the administration should have been questioned at all on this.

The apologist are those who continue to defend the witch-hunt which has brought down the Congressional approval rates to historic lows. Hmmmm try looking in the mirror.

Not when the Assistant Attourney Genereal is fired for not giving the correct answer to waterboarding after subjecting himself to it.

ABC News: White House Blocked Waterboarding Critic

It's downright unethical and extremely stupid.

Changing the subject I see.

What was the man's job, what task was assigned to him? Was he carrying out that task as was his job and to whom he was responsible?

"When Levin took over from Goldsmith, he went to work on a memo that would effectively replace the Bybee memo as the administration's legal position on torture."

His job was to write out the legal position of the President, not his own. He was not doing his job. If he didn't feel he could complete the job then he should have told the President and resigned, just as if you hire a lawyer and they decide they have an ethical or other conflict would.

???? Where is the Injustice, Corruption, or Braking the law in the case of firing 8 us attorneys? Whether you're a REP or DEM you should never make baseless allegations of Injustice, Corruption, or Braking the law
just because you hate the other party more.

You have those talking points down well. Good job.

But it does seem like anyone who disagrees with the president about aspects of this war winds up losing their job. He thinks dissent is weak. He can't have people around with differing opinions because he has a morbid fear of admitting he was wrong. How come so many people leave his administration and attack his judgement and methods? Why is he making republicans unloyal? Is it just a conspiracy against Bush, Barney, and you? The ends don't justify the means.

You have those talking points down well. Good job.

No YOU have the talking points AA told you to use as you drank the kool-aid.

Suggest you do you own research before you take what they tell you at face value.

But it does seem like anyone.......

This wasn't just anybody, he worked for the President as his legal counsel his job was to present the PRESIDENTS legal argument. If he didn't want to do that he should quit.

Clear now?

Yes, people who believe in ethics and have a conscience should resign from the government. This will be the government you deserve.

If you are subpoena for federal court and don't show up that is
Breaking the Law, If Bush waved his magical executive privilege
wand to obstruct justice that is Injustice! The Dems and Justice
Department are guilty of the same thing for not calling foul when
it happened. Both sides are fully responsible for the total chaos
that flourishes in the American Political system!!!!!!
And the American Voters are fully responsible for allowing these
parties to stay in control !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has nothing to do with it, you are just incapable of understanding the role of the Presidents legal counsel.

If you are subpoena for federal court and don't show up that is
Breaking the Law,

It was not a federal court and it was not you. ALL Presidents have had the same executive privilege and the Democrats in congress were trying to overstep their authority and trampling the separation of powers doctrine.

If Bush waved his magical executive privilege
wand to obstruct justice that is Injustice!

Baloney, there was no crime, there was not unconstitutional act, there was NOTHING.

You need a refresher course in civics.

You know that there is a difference between the AG and the White House consel right?

If you are subpoena for federal court and don't show up that is
Breaking the Law,

Federal courts get involved when a crime is alleged, not when the Democratic Congress is on a fishing expedition for a scathing headline.

You know that there is a difference between the AG and the White House consel right?

And if you read the article it states he was acting as counsel to put together the Presidents position on the legal question.
