More Trump admin/MAGA GOP hypocrisy in the Department of "Abuse, Fraud & Waste". This time, it's Haggis & Mike Johnson.

WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Democrats took aim at the Trump administration after Reuters reported on Wednesday that the Navy and Air Force were poised to cancel nearly completed software projects worth over $800 million.

The reason for the move was an effort by some officials at the services to steer new projects to companies like Salesforce and Palantir0, in what could amount to a costly do-over.

“The Pentagon has yet to show that it had a good reason for halting these contracts in the last inning and scrapping work American tax dollars have already paid for," Democratic Senator Tim Kaine said in a statement. "If it can’t show its homework, then this announcement - just days after Palantir’s CEO spoke at Mike Johnson’s Wyoming donor retreat - reeks of corruption.”
Punchbowl reported this month that Palantir CEO Alex Karp planned to address Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson’s annual big-donor retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

It's not about waste, fraud or abuse.

How many arrests for fraud have come out of the DOGE adventurism?

I remember a time when the Department of Defense cautioned its employees against even the appearance of corruption re government contracting....

I’m absolutely fine with this. Whoever was contracted to do this has been working on it for 12 years without producing a working product and by the time they do it will be obsolete.

It's software. 'nearly complete' means five more years if you're lucky.

I’d love to know how many extensions they’ve been granted and how far over budget they are.

This is just budgeting + HR stuff. I wonder if there's some classified requirements adding to the cost. Contractor screwed up but I'm sure the goverment screwed up too. Cancel this and start looking for some off-the-self solutions.

You're fine with crony capitalism? Neat.

I’m fine with terminating the relationship with a company that bilked the taxpayers of $800 million over a period of 12 years and produced nothing.
You have no knowledge whatsoever other than they're rerouting money to donor companies of nearly completed projects. You folks always did say you want the government run like a business, and it is - a garbage corporation with huge corruption and bloat at the top. Yay for us.

Speak for yourself. No business would give $800 million to a contractor in exchange for nothing over a period of 12 years.

Palantir is a dangerous company.

You assume that the failure to complete the work is the fault of the contractor. You shouldn't make that assumption. Contractors are ultimately doing the work that their government points of contact approve (or don't). Never mind the fact that senior government people often move on to another position or retire every year.

...The comments show growing concern among Democratic lawmakers over waste at the Pentagon, even as Donald Trump took office vowing to rid the government of waste and abuse. The website of the Department of Government Efficiency, the agency he created to spearhead those efforts, lists over $14 billion in Defense Department contracts it claims to have canceled.

But seven months into his presidency, some of his own actions have complicated DOGE's work, from firing the Pentagon's inspector general to issuing an executive order prioritizing speed and risk-taking in defense acquisitions.

“If you’re serious about cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse, the last thing you’d do is cancel $800 million in projects that are nearly ready to roll out just to turn around and steer the same work to corporations of your choosing," said Democratic Representative Maggie Goodlander, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee and served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve....

Donald Trump's Navy and Air Force are poised to cancel two nearly complete software projects that took 12 years and well over $800 million combined to develop, work initially aimed at overhauling antiquated human resources systems.

The reason for the unusual move: officials at those departments, who have so far put the existing projects on hold, want other firms, including Salesforce and billionaire Peter Thiel's Palantir, to have a chance to win similar projects, which could amount to a costly do-over, according to seven sources familiar with the matter....

`````````````````````````````````````
Let this sink in: Navy and Air Force officials don't seem to give a damn about wasting taxpayers' funds AND delaying the "overhaul" of "antiquated human resources systems" by canceling two current contracts that are "nearly complete" and starting the procurement process over from scratch, in order to....do what? Steer our monies to corporations favored by the current Republican administration?
WTF?
That's a push button post.
There's nothing specific in it or to it.
One size fits all MAGA posts on anything.
Chief of Staff of the Air Force just announced his early retirement with two years remaining on the standard 4 year term. Gen. David Allvin will retire on or about Nov. 1st or until a successor is named, vetted by Congress and can get confirmed by the Senate.
Hegseth The Horrible has frozen Gen. Alvin's once in a generation Air Force reorganization and restructuring plan that targets the CCP-PRC with new ways and means the USAF can defeat the PLA forces land, sea, air. Hegseth ordered the Air Force to put the reorganization plan on hold. This leaves in place existing USAF plans the PLA has spent the past years learning and preparing to defeat.
Hegseth is also talking out of his ass about intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (SIR) and in a contradiction of Allvin's high tech expertise. Allvin ticked off Hegseth when the 4-star former vice chief of AF staff testified to Congress in May that "satellites are not yet advanced enough to take over the entire airborne moving target indication mission" for the AF.
Hegseth the numbnuts is also at odds against Gen. Allvin on the new E-7 Wedgetail airborne battle management platform that compensates for the continued absence of satellite battle management capabilities. Hegseth apparently likes satellites no matter. Gen. Allvin also testified about this to Congress in May which caused Hegseth to lose it against the General who is a grad of the Air Force Academy.
Former Sec/AF Frank Kendall said in a May interview with Defense News that a "satellite-based moving target indication capability still faces several technical challenges, including whether it could have enough power, penetrate cloud cover and withstand enemy attacks." Kendall said a moving target indication system based entirely in space would take years to field.
Indeed, Hegseth already comes across at the Pentagon as a know it all. A complete asshat who is a menace to the armed forces who are dedicated to accomplishing their mission.
Haggis must think he can do a better plan.
The guy who knowingly used a compromised app to discuss war plans.
Is this the same team working on CA's high speed rail project?
Hegseth put an active engagement underway onto his compromised app.
A short time later Hegseth The Horrible tried to give the Pentagon's war plans against China to Musk in an unannounced confidential meeting at the Pentagon.
This act of high treason got stopped before it began when Hegseth's own buddies in senior positions in his office leaked it to the NYT that published it. Trump admitted he didn't know about it. Hegseth even brought in Adm. Paparo the chief of US Indo-Pacific command which is all US forces out there from Pearl Harbor who was to make the massive presentation for a second Pearl Harbor this time by the Chinese.
Hegseth was at the center of this secret plot and scheme of high treason against the United States for Musk who we know has big investments in China as his bargaining tool with the CCP and its PLA.
No MAGA has any claim to patriotism and loyalty to country. Not the USA anyway as their country. Indeed, the USA is cooked with Trump and MAGAs in charge.
