That is pretty stupid legislation obvious reaction to recent events, almost as bad as the one's requiring someone to display their birth certificate as well which was an obvious response to the birther junk. And I bring that up only because it compares so easily and not because I'm trying to make a silly "You did it too argument."

It's worse, because this is the United States Senate!

The Dems are really embarressing the crap out of themselves with this.

They will lose BIG like they did in Nov 2010. Nothing they can do or say will change that fact.

Actually...apparently the shoe just got placed back on Ms Pelosis foot...and its not a wee bit uncomfortable!

Nancy Pelosi Downplays Tax Return Demand : Roll Call News

Of COURSE she doesnt want to and really...this is such a non issue. It ALWAYS is a non issue...when it is democrats. Liberals didnt say word ****ing one about Kerrys tax returns or his tax rates when he was running. Bunch of complete ****ing hypocrites. Pathetic. Meanwhile...what was the recently released economic 'growth' rate? What is the unemployment rate?

Firstly, you got a point its worse coming from the Senate than a state legislative.

Secondly, a Dem is embarrassing himself not the dems.

We didn't complain about his tax filings because he released 20 years of them.

I highly doubt that the democrats are gonna lose "BIG".. in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they one more than they lost.
Very unlikely. They have (I think) about twice as many seats up for re-election this year as republicans do. They would be doing awesome just to break even.

In the House, Rep. Sander Levin (D-Mich.) is proposing legislation that would require presidential candidates to release 10 years worth of tax returns and disclose any overseas investments.

As I have said in other threads, I don’t care about a candidate’s tax returns unless they have broken a law. I also don’t care about their investments IF they are in a blind trust while they are serving.

That said, if Congress wants to make this a new rule for candidates, fine. BUT the current batch of candidates, be they Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, or whoever, should be exempt from the new rule. It is beyond f-ed up to spring such a new rule on the candidates this close to the election just to help your guy out. I despise Romney, but you don’t get to change the rules near the end of the game. If they grandfather the current batch of candidates then I am ok with the legislation. If not, then it is just Congress interfering with the current election.

Quoted for agreement. In fact I think the disclosures should be required, but it should go into effect in the next cycle. I believe cabinet appointees are already required to disclose a good number of years' tax returns. It's stupid to require that of the underlings but not the boss.

A silly thing to legislate, though its obvious the fear on this is on the Republican side. They know they are damned if the do (Mitt certainly does not want to reveal he believes so much in America that all his money is out of the country and how much he made betting agains the American people in credit default swaps) and damned if they don't (people will just believe he is hiding these things). And, of course, if he takes too much time releasing his returns he gets to look untrustworthy (what's he hiding?) AND weak (really, why didn't you just do that in the first place?).

Good luck with this one Regressives. This is a winner for the Dems no matter how you slice it. Its probably time to name Pawlenty your VP so you can buy some cover.

All stated that Romney absolutely should release multiple (5-10 years) returns. Some suggested that he must be hiding something. Hey far-righties, do these names sound familiar??

This thread is asinine. The far rightie Obama haters are failing miserably. The American people are not going to elect someone worth half-billions dollars who has been hiding his money off shore for a decade. No one is going to elect a multimillionaire who paid no taxes several years in a row.

He's hiding something and his campaign will tank in the next month if he does't disclose the returns.

so what you are saying is that the brain dead masses care more about what taxes Romney paid than the fact that Obama is clearly incompetent?

Horse****. You didn't even THINK about it, nor did you think about his tax rate. It was never an issue, just as it wasn't an issue when it was revealed he is dodging taxes today in Massachusets. You simply don't CARE when it involves democrats.

I think he's saying that Americans prefer our accomplished president to an incompetent, tax cheating, pathological liar without a single core conviction ... to borrow your argument style.

While I agree that the more we know, the better decisions we can make, it is not Constitutional for congress to ad or subtract requirements concerning the eligibility of the POTUS. That must be done through a constitutional amendment.

I agree, then everyone can speculate for he next 4 months on what dirty secrets Romney has tucked away that cannot be seen even though over half of Americ wants them released. His $100 million IRA for example. It has been surmised that he probably underreported the value of his shares of Bain when he deposited them. Shares that were worth 30 million could have been valued at say $30,000 for instance. $30,000 is th e maximum yearly contribution to an IRA. The possiblilties of his Cayman adventure are equally juicy. Ofcourse all this speculation maybe off base and Romney is innocent but WHY IS HE STILL HIDING IT THEN? It's going to be a long 4 months for Mitters.

Sure, but we are talking about what should be a legal requirement and you are talking about what the politically smart thing to do is.

It's more like "The jig is up". The latest Gallup poll shows 54% want to see more of his returns. If you don't give voters what they want..........

There doesn't need to be any law. Romney was not vetted and now he's screwed. That's better than any law.
Do we need a law against banging your head against the wall too?

Personally I think the GOP are much more comfortable as spoilers and blamers then actually being in charge and doing anything. Look at what a sham the House has become. Next they need to put in a sandbox for them to play in. Lets face it, their policies have failed time and time again on every level except vastly enriching a small percentage of Americans. With those 5% now holding 40 trillion in net wealth they really don't need to do anything but try and stop change in those policies. They will have plenty of money to back them up. Shut down the Govt., gum up the works, fiddle while Rome burns, that's the ticket. Who wants to be in charge of a sinking ship?

The GOP brass picking Romney because they knew he would lose is a real possibility. It they win then they are the ones who get blamed for doing nothing.

You might doubt it, but it's going to happen. Why would they win more? They had complete control in 2009 and 2010 and still couldn't get the economy turned around. Why on Earth would anyone want more of that?

Why would anyone want a sh!t sandwich when they could sit back and enjoy a vomit shake?
