Let's be honest, given the choice between telling her thugs to leave him alone or having him wrestled down and cuffed, what do you think she's going to do? It's the Trump administration for crying out loud. This is how they function.

I suppose we can blame the senator for expecting some humanity, because we all know that with administration, the idea is absurd. Yet, we're still human. A hard habit to break, for some people.
