I've said this before, that you cannot continue to grow an economy (population) indefinitely with a planet of limited resources. Civilization needs to both find a healthy equilibrium with our environment and a plan to colonate off-world before it's too late. Degrowth is eventually going to be an inevitable and painful outcome anyway, but we can seek a smoother transition.

Some environmentalists and economists are pushing for "degrowth" — stabilizing or even shrinking the economy — to avert environmental catastrophe.

The big picture: Degrowthism may seem like the only reasonable response to the climate challenges we face, but the experience of enforced economic shrinking during the pandemic indicates the pain would outweigh the benefits — especially for the world's poorest.

if humans are hard wired for unlimited growth then trying to stop or control that would require fascism that would make people wish they were dead anyway lol

we cannot change our destiny

So you think people would rather be dead than see any curbs on the expanding economy?
I think the vast majority of people would disagree.

Infinite growth is impossible unless we end up in a Star Trek style future.

Even population growth is slowing and will at some point start to decline globally.

Well fortunately the trend seems to be that as economies grow, populations begin to shrink. That hashappened to almost every developed/developing nation: from Germany and France to India, Japan, and S. Korea. As more countries begin to develop economically, we can likely expect the same pattern to continue.
