I'm relieved that they are fighting back. Hearing set for Friday.

This is what the tariff revenue will go to...the administration fighting all of the unlawful actions of this presidency.

D.C. Sues Trump Administration Over Take Over of police?
Not surprising at all, really.

I thought they were just there as a supplementary force to be a deterrent to crime and "be good witnesses" since supposedly they wont be armed.

How all of a sudden, is the NG superseding the DC police force leadership? What's the justification...or even need...for that?

Question: is it the NG that are physically moving the homeless to "other locations?" I havent seen that clarified anywhere, just public protests to their removal.

I asked what it looks like, not what it doesn’t. And police conduct checkpoints frequently.

Within cities? Not unless there's an active suspect on the loose.

Have you seen otherwise? If so, examples?

Does the Mayor not want help from the National Guard or from Trump?

The deficit was doomed to increase due to the lawsuits against the horrible policies enacted by this presidency which leaves little to pay for the ballroom and to replace the tired grass in DC parks.

Doesnt sound like she does...where have you read or heard otherwise? Did she request it?

What does a passive takeover look like?
Not 'passive'. Thats the opposite of 'active'. 'Friendly' is the opposite of hostile. A friendly takeover would be one that was accepted by the party(s) being taken over.

Not the NG. Trump's corrupt AG.

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Pam Bondi further cemented the Trump administration's takeover of D.C. law enforcement Thursday by shifting decision-making authority from its police chief and handing it to the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, drawing pushback from the city's mayor.

Ah thanks. Huh. So still a federal role taking it over. What BS.

Why? It's obvious that D.C is a mess with crime adn juvenile crme. Try working for the people once in a while instead of the party BS. So fare reports have been mostly positive. The citizens want it cleaned up but the politicians want to stonewall.

I was just thinking out loud as she's requested the Guard over 50 times in her tenure.

There is no emergency. Crime is down. Trump is lying his ass off as usual.

Trump belongs on the funny farm. He is losing grasp of reality.

Read my lips: No. Emergency.

The Senate and the House that oversee DC have already become Plantation Trump with its slaves, servants and singers.

So now Trump is working on the District of Columbia which being a federal district is the lowest hanging fruit for him in the country. The NG and Marines into LA was a Big Bust defined by the ICE armed invasion fiasco of the empty MacArthur Park. All ICE did there at high noon was scare and scatter little kids at a summer day camp. Then there was the marijuana farm ICE bust up.

It's notable that the active duty Marines that had California units deployed to LA by Trump have no units in or near DC deployed there. Indeed, this time Trump knew better than to ask the Marines and knew not to try to order 'em in to begin with. The Corps is still bitching about exploiting 'em into LA never mind now in DC too. And to any civil law city again.

Wow. Source? I'd like to see the reasons.
From her own mouth:

In her letter to Austin, Bowser said that during her two terms in office she had requested National Guard deployments some 50 times: “to support our COVID-19 response, major events, and severe weather.” She added that she hoped this new request would similarly be granted.

I just found it interesting that she has seemed to be open to the use of the NG in the past but now that Trump is the one doing it everyone wants to lose their mind. I figure it's just political grandstanding.

That’s great. Can’t wait to see what happens.

This whole thing by Trump and Bondi screams of the federal government expanding its power where it’s not needed or wanted. I keep waiting to see if any true conservatives who loathe big government come to the forefront and denounce this move. But we won’t see that, because their hypocritical objections only apply to the aspect of spending money. The spending bill increasing the deficit by over $3 trillion has long been passed (a conservative failure), so now in matters like this D.C. takeover dealing with power, they’ve gone into hiding. God forbid they’re here to criticize Trump for expanding big government again.

I've heard they've set up checkpoints at busy points within the city, like WTF is that going to do? Just annoy everyone that is trying to actually do something productive?

The DC lawsuit in federal district court says the Generalissimo has overstepped the law:

In a post on social media, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said that “there is no statute that conveys the District’s personnel authority to a federal official.” “Let us be clear about what the law requires during a Presidential declared emergency: it requires the mayor of Washington, DC to provide the services of the Metropolitan Police Department for federal purposes at the request of the President,” Bowser said. Smith, the D.C. police chief, said in a court declaration that she was unaware of Trump’s plan to assume control of the MPD until he announced it at a press conference earlier this week, indicating that the Trump administration did not send Bowser a request for services or support from district police.

The law says in an "emergency" Trump can only "request" the DC Police to support federal laws. There's nothing in the law that says the Potus can take complete control of the DC police. The case went to the federal district Judge Ana Reyes who was appointed by former President Joe Biden.

Well we'll see how far this goes, not sure if they're gonna win this out; but Trump's sandbox martial law experiment is a bit ****ed up.
