On Tuesday, a source told TechCrunch that they received an email from CrowdStrike offering them the gift card because the company recognizes “the additional work that the July 19 incident has caused.”

“And for that, we send our heartfelt thanks and apologies for the inconvenience,” the email read, according to a screenshot shared by the source. The same email was also posted on X by someone else. “To express our gratitude, your next cup of coffee or late night snack is on us!”
Oh boy! 😂
Didn't affect me personally except for the inconvenience of the damn gas station closed, but I imagine it caused many a bit more than a $10 headache.
Of course they don't have to offer a thing, but come on 10 bucks in 2024?
At least make a Grant, or keep it!😉

Trying to avoid a lawsuit where people think they can get more. Corporations, on the other hand, will make millions off of them in a lawsuit :P

Who do you think they fired? The software engineer that said this needs more testing or the hierarchy of managers who said we need this delivered now.

Why not both?

Well yeah, the 'big dogs' that relied on them will likely be pursuing damages.
I don't think a Starbucks coffee on the house is going to cut it. 😁

But then, what are the terms of their 'End User Agreement'? Of that, I have no idea. Are they 'guaranteed' of anything?
I do know my cell provider has a bible that pretty well says..🤷‍♂️

I recall a case somewhere that the EULA (End user license agreement) of which you refer can be null in the moments where the service isn't servicing . I could be wrong though. At the very least, you get a false advertising claim. Not sure how everyday users could claim loss of business, unlike the "big dogs," as you say. :)

I admit rather ignorant in this case myself. Crowdstrike covers MS as I gather, so I assume when agreeing to use MS systems, deep in that agreement references Cloudstrike?
(Of course I don't read all that.. 🤷‍♂️about any tech is going to be the same. And we all still use it!)

I'm sure somewhere in there is, 'not liable for loss of business revenue due to the blue screen of death.'
😞

I'd say it all comes down to that software agreement that no one reads.(except the lawyers at the 'big dogs')

On the lower end, I have several clients that run 'well to do' business out of home. Though they may run MAC I'm betting.

But a couple run financial investment companies as example. That day cost them more than 10 bucks if MS. But surely not worth pursuing.
Or maybe it saved them 10 bucks on a bad day of investment advice! "Sorry, I'm a bit hungover, but I suggest you sell stock in widget A and invest in widget B..... I'm sorry.."😉

I hope anyone affected will tell Crowdstrike where to stuff that $10 gift card.
But people are struggling these days...
One could make the evening news about how that 10 bucks fed the kids that evening just when all hope was about lost! 😉

The media went into this as the outage was unfolding. Billions in economic damage was caused. But Crowdstrike was smart enough to stipulate in its contracts that its liability is limited to fees paid. I also learned that there is such a thing as cyber insurance and we should expect litigation as companies file claims.

Delta canceled more than six thousand flights and substantially delayed god knows how many more.

Where do you even get that many gift cards?
