I've always liked some country. Years ago, I took western dances lessons from this woman who had classes. Then the class would go to the local western bar, and dance. We used to clear the dance floor, have them play "Louisiana Saturday Night", and do this fast dynamic line dance called the "Flying Eight".

Still pretty fond of Country. I'm glad we're getting away-- at least somewhat-- from the bubblegum crap with a twang that was passing for Country music through most of the Nineties.

There's good music to be found in almost every genre, and some of those 'chicken-pickin' guitarists are among the best on the planet.

Three genres of music were always meant to be popular, but largely superficial. Pop is catchy, but mostly devoid of meaning. Then there is the Pop's redneck half sister, Country :D who is the same, only with a fiddle. And we can't forget their cousin, Rap, who use to be cool.

The good genres that are left are Indie, Emo, and Skate/Ska Punk. The good ones in the family, just not as popular.

Cool Crossover, by the Eagles!

Desperado

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you
(let sombody love you)
You better let somebody love you
before it's too late

Hotel California

The Eagles

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends :2razz:
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!
(Very cool lyrics! :2razz: )

Rocky Top
by Boudleax and Felice Bryant

Wish that I was on ol' Rocky Top
Down in the Tennessee hills
Aint' no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top
Ain't no telephone bills
Once I had a girl on Rocky Top
Half bear, other half cat
Wild as a mink,
but sweet as soda pop
I still dream about that.

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee

Once two strangers climbed ol' Rocky Top
Lookin' for a moonshine still
Strangers ain't come down from Rocky Top
Reckon they never will

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee

Corn won't grow at all on Rocky Top
Dirt's too rocky by far
That's why all the folks on Rocky Top
Get their corn from a jar

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee

I've had years of cramped-up city life
Trapped like a duck in a pen
All I know is it's a pity life
Can't be simple again

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee

I LOVE country. Including pop country. Toby Keith is fantastic. Mmmm...

I love country music too! But you can take all of those line-dancers, with their thumbs stuck in their pants, and send 'em all down the road as far as I'm concerned.

Music aside, I do get a kick outta country music fans in my neck of the woods. They get all dressed up in their Howdy Doody outfit and act all cowboy and all. Then they stick their thumbs in their pubes and go out and line-dance all night with a "I'm bored to tears" look on their face.

I'm from Texas. I'm from a ranch/farm. I have worked caqttle. I have hauled hay. I have plowed up the feilds from can 'till can't. I know REAL cowboys. They do not dress like you wannabe cowboys. Most have long hair, wear tennis shoes, ball caps and dig on Pink Floyd and grow excellent pot. Of course, there are a few exceptions. We send those guys to Brokeback Mountain though.:rofl
