Coulter's comments vs. Maher's comments

honestly I'd no idea those were derogatory terms in the god father. As for Dirty harry, never saw it.

And there's a huge poll trying to decide if the word was offensive in the polls forum. She didn't even directly call him a fag, she made a joke about maybe going to therapy IF she said it about him.

No matter what insult she used, if the two comments are to be compared, and one is in fact worse than the other, Mahr's was clearly worse.

I never said he did wish him dead. I don't even care about the comments, they were both jokes to me but you guys are comparing them, so I said, IF one is worse than the other, saying the good that would come of someone's dying is worse then calling-or almost calling-someone a fag.
 

But that's not the point. if what is said in teh original post is correct, she was just blindly insulting him. She could have called him, stupid, ugly, whatever.

Maher's comment can be validated, it may be a horrible thing to say, but if we accept that Dick Cheney has caused death, his own death (1 death) would be preferable to the deaths of others (>1 deaths).

The above statement reminds me of FOX news headlines last week when they mixed and convoluted headlines in an attempt to hide and avoid saying that Lewis Libby had been convicted by a jury.

AnnCoulter couldn't have been more clear in her meaning an sh is now paying for what she said. I don't know about Mahr. I didn't see that program. in any event we are all aware that Ann Coulter is prone to uncouth speech and as mentioned she is paying for it now. If, later on it works in her favor so be it. The statement was tactless and swarmy at best. Now we can go on to other things because Ann Coulter has no official standing in the Republican Party. We all know that. Searching for something to counter this obscene statement is simply folly. SB is splitting hairs and spinning like a Japanese top on new year's day.
 
Yes, Maher stated if he were dead and raised very valid argument - did you read the transcript? It's a very arguable point.
Coulter I also read the transcript, no she did not "almost call" Edwards a fag, he flat out called him a fag and it was very very clear that the intent was an insult with absolutely no validity whatsoever.
Unless I'm missing something in the transcripts please show me where my analysis of the transcripts are wrong.
 
I read the quotes in the OP. I said:

It seemed like she was jabbing more at the fact that another celebrity had to go to rehab for saying a bad word. If she really did directly call him that, please, show me the quote.

They were both bad to say but stating something is a fact that would happen and be good if someone died sounds meaner to me than just calling someone a name. Sticks and Stones.

Sounds like Maher was commenting on Cheney's life to me...

Anne's reffered to the goofy rehab the guy went to for saying a bad word. Why, is Edwards gay? I haven't heard how Edwards feels about being called a fag, if he even cares or not, only how other democrats feel and it's not really anybody else's business is it? Not even ours.

She said.


IF you want to argue that she was suggesting/implied that the word applied to him I guess that would be honest.

What is not honest is to say that she "flat out called him a fag".

Also what Maher said does not have any valid argument to it. It is not based on anything other than his opinion.

Maher was speculating on what would have happened if Cheney had been killed by the Taliban.

IF Cheney had been killed by the Taliban there is just as much chance that the support for the war on terror would increase. This could just as easily have the effect of increasing the number of people who would die.

In either case speculating that the death of a politician would be good is worse than calling someone a name.

Using that logic is it not as bad to say....

"The death of (pick a pro-choice politician) would save the lives of unborn babies."

...than....

"(Pick a pro-choice politician) is a f@gg*t."

Saying the death of someone would be good is not as bad as calling them a name.

Fair enough. So youd be against advocating the death of any politician? Sounds like a good idea to me. So why do so many right wingers call for the death of politicians they dont like?
