What does that have to do with profits for health insurance companies?

You do realize that health INSURANCE companies make profit by DENYING healthcare, don't you?

Insurance Denials of Care Amount to Unlicensed Medical Practice

William E Bennett

"As a specialist who often orders expensive medications, I find a significant portion of my week is spent addressing denials from insurance companies. Our team has extensive experience caring for complex, severely ill patients. We make recommendations after careful consideration of the risks and benefits, examining the patient, reviewing the chart in detail, and meeting with the family to understand their preferences. Then, our recommendation is countered by some sort of denial—either an outright denial or a request for prior authorization, which usually amounts to a denial with the opportunity to appeal. This practice by payers is directly harmful to patients, and the health care system, because it (a) amounts to an unqualified entity practicing medicine with limited information about the patient, (b) does not actually contain costs, and (c) is not an effective method to improve care quality."
Hell going back to member owned insurance companies like credit unions would be a slight improvement.

The entire system in the US is a shambles.
A bag of saline can cost $700.

Could a single 1000ML bag of saline really cost $26,667.03 at one hospital in Florida, $6,837.65 at another hospital in Oklahoma, or $1,031.00 at yet another hospital in Virginia?

That for a litre of salt water.
Even if we factor in the sterilization process no way does it cost that much.

Unless they need to steralize the water in deep space then I agree.

The average autoclave costs about 1200 bucks.
So if you have access to an autoclave, and distilled water and saline packets, and you know how to do standard lab measurements and how to maintain a sterile field, you can make your own sterile saline solution by the gallon for a few cents.
This is done in field hospitals and clinics every single day all over the world.

Ok but imagine the type of person who insists on only drinking water from a certain spring in France but with saline.

They will only accept water from the moon for their saline as it's hasn't been contaminated by filthy human activity.
No common muck for them!

Comedian Lewis Black (from Silver Spring, right next to my hometown in Maryland) on milk AND water. 😆

What percentage of doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff will work for free? My guess is about 1%, if that.

If they can't make money, they don't work.
Why would anyone work for free?

There are too many stupid people around for a democracy to function effectively.

By institutions, I mean things like freedom of speech, free press, independent judiciary, separation of powers, free and fair elections, limits on executive power etc..
I certainly do. Spea, ing of free and fair elections, don't forget nominating the candidate who won the primary.
