Though I must point-out a lack of civility is not exclusive to either particular lean.

Oh, I know right wingers can be insulting also. Trump being probably the biggest example. On the other political board I'm on, I've taken some verbal abuse from some righties when I didn't agree with something Trump was doing.

But since this forum is about 80% leftists, and since I lean to the right, I'm obviously going to run into more of those from the left on here. Although I do think people from the left tend to be more insulting than those on the right, and I think if you look at statistics that will be born out. For instance, you've probably seen surveys that show how left wingers are more likely to renounce friends and family members because of their political views.

I will say that you are one of the posters that is able to hold a civil discussion, and I appreciate that.

I wouldn't go that far, though there is that perception and I pointed it out.

I personally have always been attracted to intellectualism, as can be seen by my "Chomsky" moniker. And I suppose some of those complaints can be leveled at the real-life Chomsky, as well.

But I very much miss intelligent ideas expressed through a rich vocabulary in a civil manner. Unfortunately, this holds little appeal these days. I come alive when I see quality wordsmithing and expression. I could watch skilled debate & discussion for hours. But that's not what America wants today. They want emotion. Raw emotion. Therefore, begetting MAGA. Rodger Ailes got it right, decades ago.

Chomsky never gave off the 'snob' image. What I liked about him is that, unlike other intellectuals at the time, he could relate in common, everyday terms. As so called "hippies" of the day, it was tiresome being spoken down to.

Well, of course that’s your opinion. But I also don’t see any liberal boomers here complaining about the perceived political make-up of posters on DP. In other words, constantly whining that MAGA and other right wingers are in a definitive minority.

And DP is my only social media spot as well, but the fact that is has become infested with leftists is fine. Thats what debate is all about. You dont get much debate on a forum where everyone has the same political lean.

That is not an indication of how "insultive" the left is but of how independent the left tends to be. It is again an example cats vs dogs, the tendency to not be part of a pack. The left is bound less to social dominate ordering.

I can't necessarily sign-off on "who's worst" in these regards (I really don't know), but yes - some of the insulting terms flung by those from my side of the spectrum do cause me to cringe.

We're dehumanizing each other. And that's making it easier for us to treat each other unacceptably. But straight-up, I see it coming from the very head of our government , where it's being fostered. That's not to absolve these behaviours from anyone at any level. But does likely mean until we rebut this type of behaviour at the highest levels, it will remain with us and may even deepen.

Yeah, I agree. RL Chomsky had a way of relating to those in the streets, and wasn't afraid to go into the streets and get his arse beat & hauled-off to the Grey Bar Hotel!

Chomsky, later in life, can display a boring monotone in his verbal delivery. But it's in his writing, where he comes alive. His words literally jump off of the page! No one opens my mind, like Chomsky!

But he's really sick, you know. Physically incapacitated due to a stroke, living in Brazil with his 2nd wife - who is his caregiver. He appears to be in pretty bad shape, from what I saw. Which is why we really don't hear from him any more.

When he goes, we may lose the last WW-II era extant Liberal Jewish Intellectual in the public consciousness. Bernie kinda' carries-on in that vein, but he's no Chomsky.

Point out where I have made that argument. As for the rest of your dopey post, the results of the poll in this thread are all the proof you need that the site is decidedly to the left. And thats not a complaint, its a statement of fact.

I made no claim to the bolded.

But as long as MAGA is the electoral plurality and running the country, I want them around the forum to understand what's going-on & what makes them tick?

And crazy as it sounds, I want them here as a reality check on myself. There's reasons why they captured the White House, Congress, and the Court, and it's due to things you and I likely did not fully understand or under-estimated.
