I am a transgender woman.

Reading all of these articles and statistics of transgender women being harassed or killed is mind boggling to me... I wanna feel safe, but with all the hate out there, it's hard to not be paranoid...

People are targeting us and it's not fair... I know people will find reasons to hate someone for whatever reason, but to hurt or even kill someone? I think that's obsurd...

I dont get why people are so intrigued about what I can possibly do, but wouldn't do anyway. Such as simply using the bathroom. If anyone committed a crime, they would face the law. But if I dont break the law, why cant I keep living my life?

I ask people this all the time and recieve no except it's against their religion. So I ask where in the bible does it say being transgender is against their religion? Where in the bible does it teach hate and discrimination?

I always recieve silence because they know they are wrong yet, they continue to hate.

Just common issues I run into...

Try watching another news channel or avoiding the news entirely. Selling fear is their stock in trade.

Ignoring that fact that crimes agsinst transgendered people has drastically increased down make the problem go away and doesn't mean that they are safe.

Canada has always been perceived as being safe for trans people but this woman was killed in the last 48 hours in Canada.

It like the housewife in Phoenix, Az “ Quick! Get the kids inside! There has been a kidnapping in Bangore, Main.”

Things happen to everyone. You aren’t that special.

The rate of violent crime is far higher for transgendered women than with other groups. They are being targeted because of who they are and it is still going up.

Welcome to the forums! :2wave:

I think people - most people - have black & white mentalities, so when someone or something is different - doesn't fit into a convenient category - it can be challenging for them.

There are individuals out there that are terrified that they themselves may not be totally heterosexual.

That is why they verbally/physically bash gays and transgender people.

I guess that all one can do is to be careful where one goes. I assume that the night is especially dangerous, for that is when the cowardly predators come out in larger numbers.

Best wishes to the OP.

Why do people think they need to announce "I'm gay" or " I'm trans" instead of " I'm Jo" or " I'm Joanna'?
When you go to the bathroom, just go pee or whatnot. Be polite, that's all. Most people stand a better chance of being robbed because they have the latest Iphone than being harassed for being trans.

Do you think that's what happens? Somebody just walks into a room and announces, "Hey all you people--I'm gay/trans/etc.!" That's not a realistic assumption by any sense of the word. It's just that homophobes, transphobes, get salty when we have the audacity to express ourselves, especially in ways that straight people do; but when we do it it's "offensive" or "shoving our sexuality down your throat". The vast majority of LGBT people like me go about their lives like we always do; it's the bigoted assholes that are the problem here.

Your last comparison is silly because more people have Iphones than there are people that are transgender, and transgender people do experience harassment at a very high rate, unfortunately. It might be unlikely to ever happen to you or I, but it's certainly a possibility for most trans people out there.

How would I know a person is trans unless they make an effort to signal their misgender? People who make themselves stand out betray the silent ones who just blend in and go about their business.

Trans people typically go about altering their apperance to portray themselves as the gender that they want to be, so I'm not sure what you're expecting. Trans people shouldn't have to be "silent" or "blend in" because there are those that take an issue with how they choose to carry themselves.

Is the point to become another gender and fade in with the general population and go about life, or to stand out as “special”?

Most of us try to blend in, to some extent, and not attract too much attention. Nothing wrong with that. The more attention you attract, the more criticism you will get.

There's a poster here known as @Renae that you might want to talk to. For me the root of resentment from trans-sexuals is the insistence that I communicate what I believe to be a lie. If you don't insist on being called by your "preferred pronoun", you'll avoid lots of resentment. Someone who wants to pressure me into telling a lie is an enemy. Such pressure is a form of psychological abuse and you can expect push back. If it's mandated under the color of authority, you'll be treated in a passive-aggressive manner.

You just explained why Jair Bolsonaro got a respectable share of the gay vote in Brazil. People are tired of being seeing relatives killed for having a nice phone.

Not according to the DOJ's data.

Race/ethnicity/religion

View attachment 67270943

That graph is the total percentage of crimes. There are relatively few trans people and yet they are the target of a significant percentage of hate crimes because of who they are. The FBI also disagrees with you because hate crimes against trans people have increased significantly.

Crimes targeting the LQBTQ community increased about 6% from 2017, and the FBI reports a significant increase in hate crimes motivated by gender identity bias. The FBI said 184 hate crime offenses in 2018 were motivated by bias against transgender or gender non-conforming people — 157 motivated by anti-transgender bias and 27 motivated by bias against gender non-conforming individuals. In 2017, 118 were anti-transgender and 13 were anti-gender non-conforming.

Xavier Persad, senior legislative counsel for the Human Rights Campaign, said the data "reminds us of the importance of the work left to be done to protect LGBTQ people," particularly transgender women of color, who the group says is most at risk for violence.

Despite the slight decrease in reported hate crimes overall, Persad said the incidents "remain unacceptably high."

"We are talking about violence against people just because of who they are," Persad said.

Advocates point out a significant gap in the FBI's data which came to light because two of the most notorious hate crimes in recent years were never reported to the government, even though they were prosecuted as hate crimes. The killing of Heather Heyer in the 2017 Charlottesville car attack as she protested the "Unite the Right" rally, and the fatal 2016 shooting of Khalid Jabara in Tulsa by a neighbor who had terrorized the victim's Lebanese family, were both left out of national hate crime statistics collected by the FBI. Proposed legislation named for the victims, the Heather Heyer and Khalid Jabara NO HATE act, would provide incentives for hate crime reporting and grants for state-run hate crime hotlines.

Bolsonaro is not a friend of the LGBT community,

SAO PAULO — Newly installed President Jair Bolsonaro issued executive orders targeting Brazil’s indigenous groups, descendants of slaves and the LGBT community in the first hours of his administration, moving quickly after a campaign in which the far-right leader said he would radically overhaul many aspects of life in Latin America’s largest nation.

One of the orders issued late Tuesday, hours after his inauguration, likely will make it all but impossible for new lands to be identified and demarcated for indigenous communities. Areas set aside for “Quilombolas,” as descendants of former slaves are known, are also affected by the decision.

Another order removed the concerns of the LGBT community from consideration by the new human rights ministry.

Is the public existance of a trans people a threat to you that you feel that it is legimate too target them for who they are because they refuse too hide? Do you think that they are asking for your approval or that of your church?

How does a trans people or any LGBT person try to stand out as "special"?

On most issues, I agree with you, but not here.

Demanding to be allowed to be included in sporting events where your TG is clearly an advantage. Insisting on using the facilities designed for the otherwise equipped, and lately I've been seeing more and more you must give that job to me because I'm special is not just going just going about your business.

That's absolute nonsense.
