locking something in a 4000 pound metal box isn't negligence
Someone broke into your 4000 pound metal box? What are you saying? And the box was in your car?

I proposed that all new construction housing be required to include a built in gun safe. I suppose that could be extended to new manufactured motor vehicles.
This is silly. We have large parts of the country that are nutter free.
In nutter country, this makes sense.

Rotflmao!the container IS my car - its a 4000 pound metal/steel container with locks and a security system
isn't that good enough precautions/safety measures against criminals ?
I say anyone having their car broken into and something stolen should be fined $500 - they're at fault for not locking their stuff up good enough. Deal ? You with me ?
Rotflmao!
what ?
that's what the new Colorado does
you lock your car? you put your valuables out of sight? NOT GOOD ENOUGH !!! If a criminal breaks in and steals? YOU will be fined $500 for them stealing your items !!
I say we apply that to every driver/owner of every car .... why isn't that just good common sense laws ?
A gun is not a soccer ball.
Just an FYI
no, its not
but its not about what's being stolen .... its about placing responsibility on the owners of being victims of crimes for not doing enough to stop from being victims of crime
we need to do that with every automobile - we could end all auto/robbery/thefts
right ?
Guns are in a category all their own
its targeting gun owners -
Get over it. We have a nutter problem. It needs to be addressed.
Guns are in a category all their own
Mine and all other rational actors.By what criteria?
Mine and all other rational actors.
No. I mean try in some way to state the criteria by which you determine guns are in a category all by themselves.
If you can't do it, just retract your claim and say so.
They ****in kill people. That is why they are made
Jesus Christ, what is so hard about this?
In order to enact punishment people have to be caught. So we still are not catching them.50 years min prison sentence for stealing a gun anywhere, anytime
there - the cost (prison) is now far far greater than the reward (gun) and it would stop almost all gun thefts IMO
liberals would NEVER go for this though, would they ?

I'm not arguing with that the victims of theft should be fined.but we'll catch those damn victims of theft and hit them with $500 fines !! that's REALLY going to stop criminals !!!
Because the government doesn’t have the authority to tell you how you can store your own private property, on your own property. ESPECIALLY a constitutionally protected right such as firearms. At the risk of making a real mess of this, but please hear me out, this all reads like an attempt to lower the number of guns stolen from vehicles by telling the gun owner to take more precautions with a gun unmonitored in a vehicle.
I may not agree with all that is being proposed by the bill as worded but I do understand the idea of addressing the unwise idea of leaving a gun in a condition were theft of it is not that difficult.
Unsure why this is so controversial.
This law can’t be enforced. It’s completely unconstitutional. The government can’t tell you where to keep your gun, on your own property or in your own property. If I follow you, that would mean an unmonitored gun would have the same value under the law as grandma's purse left behind in the car. Unsure the law agrees with that, but I am not super familiar with Colorado law.
I still disagree this is placing blame from criminal to gun owner, but it is asking the gun owner to lock up gun left behind in a car somewhere. BTW, I have no problems with harsher sentences for those who break into a car and steal a gun.
Application of this law becomes a concern. I only see a few options for this to be enforced. After the fact, or some officer walking by an empty car but seeing a gun on the seat.
I'm not arguing with that the victims of theft should be fined.
I'm saying there's a way to catch criminals.
It doesn't where did you get the idea that I thought it does? I think this bill punishes the victim.how does this bill do that ?
