Colorado lawmakers introduce bill to ban semiautomatic firearms with detachable magazines (1 Viewer)

Actually, exactly the original story.

Like I said, I do not hold myself out to be a firearms expert. I know MY guns. I didn't think it was a bull shit post. In fact, I thought it was a post a pro 2A type might actually find favor with, unlike some of my other posts.

I didn't find what you wrote graceful at all. I found it, like many posts you make to me, an attempt to be insulting. Which is why I responded in kind. If I misread that I apologize.

I have a career lengths of experience with MY weapons with the training *I* received from my department and sought out on my own. The street survival training was rather extensive and all I really went into here. I didn't go into much on what I got of other sorts of training so I do not know why you think you could comment about what I never went in depth on.

It mentions detachable magazines as being the biggest basis for banning of the weapons it takes aim at, specifically because they claim it allows for rapid reloading and thus high capacity in short time frames.

I do not know any handguns owners who used fixed magazine semi-auto handguns. They all use, as I do, detachable magazines. These would all be banned for purchase in Colorado under this proposed law.

May issue with it is its using language that seems to attempt to hide its purpose. If one wants a bill that bans ALL the semi-auto handguns that are available for sale that anyone would actually use, then just say that. Don't use "weasel" language to try and hid the intent.

I have never put myself out as an authority. I said I know what I know because of personal experience and was told what I know can't be so because you are the expert. Thus know better than I when I told you I have lived this that I am telling you about.

People tend to get a bit miffed when they speak of their life experience, things they have lived first hand, and are told that what they are saying can't be true thus they couldn't have lived them.

IF you don't know that I am not sure I can explain it to you. It is rather common sense.

My first post to you on this matter: No, all semi-automatic handguns are not gas operated. The great majority of them aren't.

Looks polite to me. What offended you about it, other than it was a correction of your error?

BTW, I forget what you claimed are your handguns, specifically- but it's highly unlikely they are gas operated.

@ModernDiogenes

As to your original story about dual handgun wielding, I think it started roughly here:

As I was pointing out, as well as the point that as an inclose weapon two semi-auto handguns would be more effective. Twice the fire rate, two directions simultaneously, able to be better used as a defensive weapon.

Luckily the nut cases that do this stuff haven’t had the training some of us model citizens have had.

I'm afraid that will be challenged immediately and with the disposition of our current courts will be struck down in no time.

You're right. They seem to have added blowback pistols in there. The bulk of those are .22s, and there's an exemption for those. It's odd. They're including in their ban some .25s, .32s and .380s, basically.
The gun control people used to really want to outlaw cheap pistols. They used to call them Saturday Night Specials. Maybe they are just trying to achieve one of their old dreams.

To claim a lifetime of experience with firearms and not be familiar with gas operation- and now autoloaders with fixed magazines- is suspect.
I know a fair bit about guns. But I’m sure there are a few gun details somewhere that I don’t actually know. No one can know everything.

Perhaps.

I agree. But the matter of operating systems for autoloading firearms, and the existence of fixed magazine autoloaders should be pretty basic for someone who claims a lifetime of experience carrying and even gun fighting. Someone who claims to have a great deal of training, far beyond most people. I think I knew of fixed magazine autoloaders somewhere around 8 years of age. "Gas operated" about the same. My father had been given a present from my mother...a new shotgun. It was a WInchester 1400, and those have fixed magazines and are gas operated.

If only his knowledge was based on real life and not playing video games.

That’s baseless, and foolish.

You ever do any military, law enforcement or anything else in a uniform? If you did, thanks for your service and don’t question mine.

Any person who claims that shooting dual wielding pistols to shoot two targets in separate directions has no real world knowledge of shooting and zero actual tactical training.
You exposed yourself. It’s to late to go back on that now.

Terrible idea, but I give them credit for one thing: at least they're showing their true colors instead of trying to mislead people with that "assault weapons" nonsense like most other Democrats are doing.

16 out of 35 Senators and 23 out of 65 Representatives are listed as sponsors.

Yet another example of bizarre left-wing hypocrisy. 4 times as many people die in CO in car accidents as in gun homicides, but are they introducing bills to lower the speed limit, ban 100+mph cars, or increase the penalties for drunk driving, all of which would save hundreds of lives per year? Nope. They're going after weapon features that account for anywhere from zero to a handful of deaths per year.
I guess they missed the Bruen decision.

it is a sensible law............................why not save a few more lives??
Every semiautomatic with a detachable magazine? Even a 22? What is sensible about this law?

54% of gun-involved homicide is suicide and I fail to see how this would help.
You could kill yourself deader with a semiautomatic with a detachable magazine. Everyone knows this. When you shoot yourself with one of these weapons of war, you're not just dead, you're reeeeely reeeeely dead.

Oh no, you mean I could be so dead that I died?

Numb nuts. Put two laser pointers in your hands and at close range point at two targets you select simultaneously . Two chairs in your kitchen. See if you can hit both chairs with the lasers both in your field of view. It’s pointing. It’s doable.

A few years ago there was a poster who kept accusing me of playing some military video game that I’ve never played. (I do play Classic World of Warcraft, but that is far from a military video game — think Elves and Orcs and Dragons.) I don’t remember what messageboard it was on but I eventually had to put the guy on ignore. Whatever problem he had with me wasn’t being resolved by my attempts to communicate with him. It’s a shame because he seemed to be pro-gun, but I’ve managed to survive without his company.

Some 20 years ago, on a messageboard that now no longer exists (and that I miss), someone who had served in the military came to the conclusion that I had been in the Special Forces because I understood some of the details of the workings of a M60 machine gun. I’m not sure how that would lead to a conclusion that I had been in the Special Forces, as plenty of ordinary grunts used the M60, and I think it is the most common transferable general purpose machine gun in the NFA registry. But I quickly clarified that I have never been in the Special Forces. Since I had not been trying to represent myself as such, I would not have been guilty of stolen valor, but I still felt uncomfortable with anyone thinking that I had a military record that I had not actually achieved.

My point with all this rambling is that messageboard conclusions about other people’s experiences may not always be accurate.

As for the question of dual wielding, it seems like I’ve heard that there was some mafia enforcer that dual wielded M1911 45s. Not recently, but back in the 1970s or 1980s. I have no idea if he aimed at different targets at the same time, or how accurate his shooting was if he did.

As for video games, dual wielding certainly exists, but I’ve never heard of it being used to aim at separate targets at the same time. Certainly not in Classic World of Warcraft at least.

It’s called idiotic and it’s why no one who knows what they are talking about does it.

The more you defend it the more you prove you have no idea what you are talking about.

Liberals/progressives/Democrats don’t believe in the Supreme Court or Constitution. And SCOTUS now seems to waffling with ABC and Roberts (who was always a squish) starting to side with the three liberal idiots.

i publicly apologize for using a mild, but defamatory, term in regard to another poster. I was baited across a line when my stated career and my participation in it was publicly suggested to be untrue and it being inferred my service is a lie.

Other’s behavior is on them. Responses to it are on the responder.

I like to keep it classy. The use of that term wasn’t. So I, again, apologize for the use of it.

Wishing ALL well.
