College Football 2014! [W:519, 763]

Are you ready for college football? Just about two weeks until nothing gets done in my house on Saturdays.

ESPN Power Rankings - Top 25

Will FSU do it again? Nope. Alabama? Nope.

Ha! I'm looking forward to it as well. Hard to bet against FSU though...schedule...harder than last year but not too bad. Jamis Winston is a pretty damn good QB. Offense line is coming back. Hard to bet against a returning Heisman QB with his Offensive line that protected him well the year before

FSU will be exciting to watch. Winston is excellent. The FSU offense will put a lot of points on the board. But defense. FSU can't hope to be what it was last year defensively.

Since Lane Kiffin was fired (heck he wasnt even allowed on the bus for the ride home!) from the USC team Im hopeful that my alma matter will once again rise in the standings. Fight on for ol'SC!

I've heard some talk about UGA....healthy, defense was talented but young last year...easily the best running back duo in the country....

Overrated:

Alabama
Auburn
USC
Notre Dame (as usual)
Stanford

Underrated:

Oregon
UCLA
Texas A&M

I'm very excited that Suddenlink has added the SEC channel. I hope I don't have to pay extra for it--does anybody know?

Is Famous Jameis gonna be out of jail for the first game?.......Is FSU gonna play Bethune Cookman again this year? Which four SEC schools are gonna be selected for the playoff?

I'm excited to see how James Franklin does in his first year as Penn State's head coach. The guy is a recruiting beast! I'm also excited to see Christian Hackenberg in his sophomore season. He's a big time talent!

GO MICHI aw to hell with it

Yep, I'm looking forward to sophomore Brendan Douglas tearing it up at RB for UGA......

It only took you until the eighth post on this thread .

When is the last time a Heisman Trophy winner repeated his performance? Once, Archie Griffin. I don't think FSU will repeat although playing in the weakest major conference in the FBS has its advantages. It sure did last season.

Alabama was definitely overrated last year but look for a better team this season. Having a weak, weak, weak schedule really helps them.

Auburn overrated? They weren't even ranked in last season's preseason polls and finished #2. Gus Malzon is a genius. Have you been smoking crack?

Oregon underrated? They're ranked # 4 in the ESPN poll. What do you want? However, Marcus Mariota is my preseason favorite to win the Heisman.

Texas A&M underrated? They've had a lot of off season issues this summer. That, having inexperience at the QB position and a horrible defense really hurts them.

This playoff system will really hurt the SEC. Probably only one team will get in, the team that wins the SEC championship game.

Now all those SEC bashers can celebrate their less than qualified affirmative action selections that make it into the playoffs.

Hmmm, I guess I'm going to be paying more attention to Oregon. I'm excited by Auburn's prospect this fall. Not so much the Aggies. I hope I'm wrong but the off-season "issues" were mainly criminal behavior. Sumlin has had his hands full.

Considering Jameis Winston isn't in jail now, I would daresay that yes, he will be.

Is FSU gonna play Bethune Cookman again this year?

2014 Florida State Seminoles Football Schedule - FSU

NO. However, they do have a matchup with mighty Citadel in their second game. Still, they're far from the only top team to schedule cupcakes. Alabama has Florida Atlantic on Sept. 6. Oregon has Wyoming on Sept. 13.

Which four SEC schools are gonna be selected for the playoff?

Whichever ones ESPN wants!

Wisconsin will have the best RB duo in the country with Melvin Gordon and Cory Clement(barring injuries of course)

If we can beat LSU in the opener (tall order), then the rest of the schedule is winnable to the Big Ten championship game. But without a signature team in between LSU and an OSU/MSU team, we need to win out, which statistically is hard to do. I don't expect we will (our d is young and we have nothing at WR), but damnit, I love college football. All of it. I'm a Big Ten guy, but I'll watch any conference.

Aggies have had their share of off field problems which should impact what they do on the field.

Auburn returns eight starters on offense. They replace Tre Mason at RB and with lots of talent, Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant. Grant ran a 4.18 40 yd dash last spring. I think they will be as, if not more impressive offensively this season even though they have a tough road schedule.
Their defense should also be improved.

How does this system hurt the SEC? It's a team ranking system just like the polls that were always filled with SEC/ESPN bias. And you're probably right......an 'affirmative action' team like Boise State could never beat an SEC contender like Georgia......would never happen. That's probably why no SEC school will agree to a 'home and home' agreement with the Broncos......scared to play on the smurf turf......LOL

The teams aren't picked by the final rankings but rather by a selection committee. There are a lot of SEC haters out there.

Boise beat Georgia 35-21 to start the season in 2011. Think any SEC team is afraid to play on the blue field, seriously?

Absolutely, Boise State has been trying to get SEC schools on a 'home on home' for years.....no takers

Is ESPN just showing re-runs?
