(CNN) US tomato prices could jump as soon as Monday

Tomatoes may become the new eggs . . .

except for maga, you KNEW what was coming when the Orange monarch stepped into office.

he wasn't just aiming for the Blue sheep, he wants everybody under his bus. so now we have a War on Food, what are you gonna do?

we went thru this with the War on Eggs, and you could go to Tractor Supply and buy baby chicks and have had eggs by now. they also sell garden seeds and plants if you noticed after buying yur hens.

so yeah Chom, tomatoes are the new eggs.

grow Cherry Tomatoes, very easy to grow and less splitting. you get Zillions of them and all bite sized; i learned this the hard way with my Big Matoes taking toooo long to grow.

what about the Maga people, how will they cope? they will think this is short lived and maybe get the canned yuck tomatoes.

most of them think this is still Maga..........it is not and you never, never, never git what you vote for anyway. so just stop it. BTW you got 'Dark Maga' if you haven't noticed yet.

so what is Dark Maga? for starts that means EVERY body under the bus, go with that, cause you are not going to read much about it. to lazy or whatever. i was hoping the Left would jump all over this but they have been co-opted by the same Oligarchs running the right wing.

blessings all, hope you figure it all out. but i doubt it. what will it be next week huh?

.

We have a couple of plants. I grow them just for fun. Lots of local farmstands in our area too should we run out.
Homegrown is best both for taste and convenience. Here, we have two growing seasons! But truth be told, when the plants don't yet produce ripe maters, those cheap Mexican tomatoes sure make a difference.

Gee, New York City allows marijuana to be grown in apartments. Wonder why, if it's so difficult? Why arn't the liberals bitchin about that?

So stupid.

Looks like me falling down the steps in Tiger Stadium. So I’m told 🤣

Yeah, so I'm told too lol,

Hey, I was a student. In the student section. I was traumatized. Early 90s under Curly Hallman.

And with that, 10% inflation is suddenly not a concern for the MAGA crowd. But the lesser global inflation was the end of the world because... Biden.

stop it, now

there you go playing the Dialect; left vs right or whatever insanity.

Branden and Orange ARE puppets, they have no say. and you think for a minute that Branden was running the country or even knew where the Border was?

nope. most sheep think New Mexico is part of Mexico and can't find Dee Cee on the map......i know, i worked with them. groan.

well this is hopeless, keep fighting each other and keep losing. divide and conquer and run for the Cliff.

blessings, keep digging.

I hear ya, brother!

good.

are you growing tomatoes and eggs yet?

have you warned fellow Magas about Dark Maga yet?

if not, why not?

blessings, keep digging.

An yet, I've seen the mosaic here, too. Just not as obvious. That has to do with the reception of the natives. Americans are more nativist than Canada, but some of the immigrants resist that, which I don't have a problem with, but apparently some do. It's more complicated, though, than what I can lay out in a forum post. 'Natives' have legit grievances. Not so much against the migrants but against the system that exploits the migrants and ****s middle-class people born here out of better wages and standards of living.
What you seem to be saying agrees with what I've been saying for years. Illegal immigrants workers are being lured into your country. They're not taking jobs from Americans, the jobs are being given to them by employers.
Who's the bad guy in that equation?
In principle, I personally don't have a problem detaining and deporting every single illegal/undocumented individual *back to their country of origin (this third country shit is off-the-rails abusive). I have always been against illegal immigration, as most moderate/centrist people are.
Most people are.
But if the illegal immigrants worker who is detained and deported is replaced with another, has any progress been made?
What I have despised is how migrants are blamed for all our nation's ills, when in reality, they're only responsible for a fraction of it. It's the corporations, their lobbyists, their shareholders (including many of us) who are mostly to blame. America has a values problem. We value profits over everything. The migrants didn't give us that value system. They're here because of it. If we had a different value system, maybe they would go somewhere else or stay in their own countries.
American companys have to compete with cheap foreign labour. They can go to foreign country's and build facilities to hire cheap labour or they can draw the cheap labour to their facility in the US.
Or they can be satisfied with a limited market for their high-priced products.

Bitch, bitch, bitch about tomatoe prices. It doesn't take much to grow a damn tomatoe.

Lees

You're not the only when that grows tomatoes, Lees.

But as you know for most of us it's a single season crop, not really cost effective unless growing a larger quantity.

You get none all year, until AUG, when you get more than you'll ever use. This then involves making tons of Marinara & Tomato Based Meat Sauces, and then canning the rest.

Of course a sauce or a canned tomato, is not a sliced tomato. So, what do we do for the other 10-1/2 months outside of harvest season? Also, where do we find the time - if not retired or on the dole?

And perhaps most obvious to anyone that's actually done this, you're going to plant in Mid July? Really?

Your post is pretty much a joke.

Domino's here sucks, too. I was just surprised the "Thin & Crispy" crust is a bit of an exception. For my tastes, anyway.
We do have a Chicago born/Palatine originated Rosatis franchise here in Encinitas who does thin and crispy well.
They're about the only ones, but there's another Chicago owned pizzeria, they have two spots in San Diego where they do a pretty decent job. It's called Lefty's. ~ Go figure. ;)

Field-grown tomatoes cost US shoppers about $1.70 per pound as of May 2025, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Consumer tomato prices could rise by about 10% and demand may fall by 5% as a result of these tariffs, according to Timothy Richards, a professor of agribusiness at Arizona State University.

Another 17 cents per pound.

Rough.

Like I said, this will be the Canary in the Coalmine.

CNN is always presenting the worst case scenario on the tariffs.

Serious doubt tomato prices will go up by 20%. Someone might make that assumption after reading the CNN article

LOL, i know that and thank you.

for some CNN and Fox are legit Fake news sources;
for real people cause it on TV. so i just let them sleep on thinking whatever CNN says is gospel. of course i use other sources, but if i don't have some Lame Stream source, most of the Forum goes to sleep.

so i can't have that.

sometimes to convince some one, i hafta throw darts every where and bust all their icons. if you miss one Icon, they think all is well even after their house burns down.

pathetic, but here we are.

CNN is always presenting the worst case scenario on the tariffs.

so, you don't like the Tomato Tariffs ? good, there is some kind of life going on here.

well guess what? August 1 is coming and they have a Boat Load more to kill the Goose. maybe they put a Tariff on the Oxygen you are breathing? hopefully then you get real mad and demand this all stop.

but prolly not.

good nite.

Even in the 1930's, you can't plant tomatoes in Mid July!
I bet you could in some more moderate climates and some determinate tomatoes.

You're not the only when that grows tomatoes, Lees.

wait, you all so smart complaining about Orange; yur smart enuf to grow tomatoes and eggs right?

But as you know for most of us it's a single season crop, not really cost effective unless growing a larger quantity.

grow Cherry tomatoes, lots of them and fast to the plate. start learning to grow stuff or else enjoy the War on Food and the War on you.

You get none all year, until AUG, when you get more than you'll ever use. This then involves making tons of Marinara & Tomato Based Meat Sauces, and then canning the rest.

not if you grow them right. remember my Cherry Tomatoes? read some garden stuff on how to expand the Growing Season.

Of course a sauce or a canned tomato, is not a sliced tomato. So, what do we do for the other 10-1/2 months outside of harvest season? Also, where do we find the time - if not retired or on the dole?

well then welcome to Dark maga technocracy, or is that tooo much to think about ?
And perhaps most obvious to anyone that's actually done this, you're going to plant in Mid July? Really?

let them try. they voted for this Mess, let them learn the Hard Way.

this is DP forum and Everyone is an expert...........ok, show me please. groan.

Your post is pretty much a joke.

LOL, most posts here are about the same Joke. it is all so easy until they try to make things work.

blessings.

Even in the 1930's, you can't plant tomatoes in Mid July!

Yeah, I tried that last year. What a disaster. Home Depot had some pretty good sized tomato plants on sale mid July or even later.

Hehe, there's a sucker born every minute. What a mess. No fruit, I even cut them down after the winter, like a bird dropping a seed. Still NOTHING.

Growing eggs?

How deep must one plant the chicken?

LOL, we are not dealing with seasoned farmers and gardeners here by a long shot.

this is DP forum; we have starry eyes ignorant Leftists, and lazy magas, a few Libertarians that have Zero clues how to solve anything.

then you have me.

so i use WORDS THEY UNDERSTAND.

some here may have never seen a chicken or raised one. how can i communicate with the hipsters and Slickers residing here? most prolly voted for Branden in 2024 not realizing he wasn't on the ballot.

so yeah, i don't give detail, it is over their heads for Practical Things.

maybe August 1 will solve everything and the whole country disappear cause the Oligarchs are tired of ruling over sheep.

blessings, dig dig dig

No, this is not some general economic prediction of some economist concerning generalized inflation due to on-again, off-again, maybe, maybe-not, tariffs

It appears a 21% tariff, specifically & exclusively on Mexican tomatoes, will go into place at 12:01A.M. tonight.

It's little known, and kinda' quirky, but apparently the U.S. & Mexico have been party to something known as the - get this - "Tomato Suspension Agreement"! For the past three decades!

It appears in April, the Trump Administration has decided to unilaterally withdraw us from this agreement. This will result in an immediate 21% tariff going into effect on Monday (14 JLY).

So perhaps with this little niche tariff occurring, we will finally see what amount of tariffs get passed on to the American consumer. Wholesalers are indicating they will have to pass-on a minimum of 10%.

I suppose we shall very soon see. I see this as the "Canary in the Coalmine", for what future tariffs may bring if ever duly applied.
Trump will love this:

1. It induces some minor suffering on his supporters, who paradoxically love him for it

2. It changes the subject from Epstein

3. It raises our taxes to help fund more handouts to billionaires.
